Not sure if this has been posted here previously, but this was the explanation posted on the Port board.

Ok so here's the 4-1-1. I've had a number of PMs pleading for reasoning. So here goes.

He's the laziest player on the list bar none. He ****s around at training, is always the last to arrive and the first to leave. Never does extra sessions.

He fails to respond to contact from the high performance teams about his appalling body composition. In fact as we speak he is the only player not to check in with their composition this off-season despite repeated attempts at contact.

He locks himself away on Fortnite for away games, bringing his gaming gear with him and sits in his hotel room often alone.

The club have tried desperately to get him to lift his game and he has refused to respond.

He has no interest in achieving premiership success and he has no drive to succeed. A player in it for the lifestyle.

The club have lost patience, they don't want him. This was happening since day 1 of pre-season. His attitude absolutely stinks and his petulance on social media has driven a final wedge.

We've tried everything to accommodate him, and he's given us nothing.

The club understand he will likely succeed at another club but the factors for this will be things the PAFC cannot control.

The players themselves have run out of patience with him, he genuinely doesn't get on with Chad Cornes - reason being Chad has demanded more from him and driven him with the whip and Wingard can't take it.

The official reasoning - "We are here to win premierships, and Chad does not share that desire."

I am fully on the club's side here. It hurts, it burns. It aches. However you all agree you want a club with a spine, you've got one.

Chad Wingard has become damaging to the playing group.

Sounds good.

Port called Burton to ask the question.
Ryan said OK. This has been on since Monday apparently!!! Incredible.
We can’t just walk away with Wingard from this trade period, we surely are looking to add a midfielder considering we’re looking to keep our future picks.

Yep the truth will come out eventually with this one

Club has said NOTHING about Burton being on the trading block. The rumour started when a hack journo suggested that Port would want him for wingard.
It’s true mate. His manager confirmed it. Hawks would have nipped it in the bud if it wasn’t.

Chad was the best young talent in the game a few years back.

Has been playing for a crap coach in a gimmicky game-style.

Let Clarko coach him and he could be anything again.

In saying that, ideally I would still like to hold on to Burton.

i realise Chad Wingard is a star, but Burton is also a star imo, he hasnt even been allowed to play as a forward which he was amazing at in his junior footy, you saw him kick those 2 goals against the top team Adelaide last year in Adelaide, put him forward screw this random defender BS

i thought that Burton couldve been our answer for a tall forward going into next year seeing as Roughead is cooked and is going at 50%, but no, now we're apparently trading him for a small forward/mid.... a good 1, but it doesnt make sense.

just head to the draft imo, trading this year seems so toxic, everyones worth 2 first rounders, everyone is worth a million a year, btw its a super draft so each pick holds more value than most years...

I’ve slept on it, my take on it is this...

If you watch our 2 finals again, our defence held up well, we were under attack against the Tigers in that 3rd quarter. Stratton’s loss hurt the following week. Our defence is fine

Our midfield battled manfully but were just outpointed by deeper midfield groups.

Our forwards looked rudderless. Teams sat on Bruest and Poppy isn’t what he once was.

We need Wingard, he oozes class and has Cyril like X factor.
He’ll pinch hit in the midfield during quarters and float through half forward.
He averaged 25, a goal a game and 5 clearances post bye in 2018.
You’d take that every day of the week.

He has also been pushed out by Port, Chad is arrogant, cocky, do you think that he’s not going to have a point to prove? People think his best is behind him at 26. He will thrive playing at the G. Easter Monday, vs Essendon, vs Collingwood, vs Sydney all big games under the bright lights. Adelaide oval is nice but it’s not the G.
He’s rated as a star outside of Vic, imagine how he’ll be viewed as a gun at a big Melbourne club.

If Burton is collateral damage in this so be it. We needs Chads attributes more than Ryan’s

I don't think our defence will be fine next year.
The rule changes mean that speed is required for defenders. Fast, attacking defenders will become the norm. We don't have enough fast defenders on our list.

How are we keeping picks? It's 15 and Burton.. stupid
Second round for this and next plus our first for next! Could have port still asking for one of those but only if we play hardball with Burton!!!
And if our club does the right thing, then correct weight would be we get a 2nd back for 15 * Burton . I’m hoping that we offer 15 + 34 and be done with but port have contacted Ryan .

If we can get Wingard next year for nothing....why don't we just wait a year and hold onto Burton and pick 15. I was keen on Wingard but not for Burton. I know he'd want to increase his midfield minutes, but if Wingard was just playing forward it is paying way too much. Draft constantly shows you can get good small forwards late in the draft or the rookie draft.

you're right on Birchall being a run and carry player, but are you seriously telling me Birchall wasnt a crash and bash player? he chipped a tooth smashing some bloke in a gf, he loves the rough stuff, he doesnt shirk a contest, thats important....

Birchall is not a crash and bash player, he will go when it's his turn but he is no Harwick, Guerra, Duryea type of madman.

It’s a disgrace that we are even trading Burton away.. let’s be serious, mind boggling

With all due respect I think your description of Birchall is a little far fetched. Birchall is a very good zoning defender and link up player exiting the defensive 50.

Your point on Scrimshaw has already been made, you don't rate him but the club does.

Nah Birch likes a bit of the old ultraviolence, seen him dish out more than one brutal hip n shoulder.

why we cant offer two first rounders + adelaide native? Someone enlighten us about how the points system works, in regards to Port working their way upto a higher pick.

Ill reserve my judgment until the trade peroid is over, would hate to lose Burton a young smart ready made player who has a good ten years in him

I LOL’d at his post... who on earth considers Birch as a hard man ? A crazy tough guy? He has been a brilliant player for a long time but that summary was horrid.
