Let’s keep Politics out of this. What a joke. Let’s be realistic.

Merlino appointment is what the HFC needs right now.

That said, should the Libs get up, things change, but I believe he is a quality candidate regardless of his political stripes. Much to the chagrin of Delicate Des.

The HFC needs sensible and quality stewardship. Again to the chagrin of Delicate Des.
Haha, I don’t recall you ever asking to ‘leave the politics out’ when posters are putting shit on Jeff & what he did over 20 yrs ago.

Unfortunately politics are going to be in every conversation when that conversation is about politicians

The issue that most have with Kennett has nothing to do with his previous political life 2 decades ago, but his behaviour as and while Hawthorn president, and how that affects and reflects on the club. He's toxic. While a politician, Merlino isn't the narcissistic boor that Kennett is and I expect he will stay out of the limelight. He won't be President and not many board members have much profile or platform.

That said, politics is inherently divisive and ideally we wouldn't have more divisive figures entering the arena, so it's not ideal. As we have seen on here, there will be some people who can't separate the individual from the politics. I would prefer other candidates to be honest but will make do with what there is.

Again, this comes down to the failure of H4C and Silk 12 months ago when Kennett played them for absolute chumps. But change is absolutely needed (the latest skulduggery around this AGM is just further evidence of how rotten things are) and I will definitely be supporting Gowers and Merlino.

I agree. The point I was trying to make, is no matter what the circumstance, politics will enter the determination……..simple fact and we would be naive to think otherwise.

Merlino would have an influential role, of that there is no doubt. That is why both sides have been courting him.

Kennett became what was good for Kennett was not in the best interest of the HFC. Simple really. He, like AC was granted too much power before it was rolled back.

I don’t believe Merlino would undertake his role in the same manner, and remember, as has been pointed out by others, he is not running for President. However it is hard to argue with WaHawk.

The H4C organisation was played for chumps and readily admits it. Silk has disappointed but there is more to that story. Let’s leave it at that.

I agree about no more politicians of either persuasion would be nice, but unrealistic.

For what it is worth, Gowers and Merlino will get my vote.

Good posts by you and BillyC. I'm just fed up with politicians full stop. I'm definitely on board with Gowers and I'm maybe coming around to Merlino. But I'll wait and see who all the candidates are first.

I've just listened to James Merlino's interview with Gerard Whateley.

He was impressive and set out his views succinctly and sensibly.

His concerns related to broadly, first, the disconnect with some players which began with Cyril not wanting to have anything to do with the club and which has progressed to the issues raised by other players "and possibly worse" and secondly, the club's disconnect with members.

He mentioned, as we already know (see my post #137), that he and Gowers were not aware of the closing date for nominating for the presidency or as a director. He said that they found out just the day before the deadline. He confirmed that the club announced the day of the AGM only on the day AFTER nominations closed. He then said that "my kid's local sporting club wouldn’t do that". He said that it's unusual and inappropriate for a professional club to behave in that way. He is suspicious of the board's motives and its desire for secrecy. He said these issues of governance are symptomatic of what the club has been doing off-field for the past few years.

Not surprisingly he was very critical of how Nankivell has become Kennett's nomination as president after he was initially chairing the nomination committee to recommend a new president. A serious governance issue.

He said that he believes the club, through Sam, is performing really well on-field but that, off-field, the issues of governance are a fundamental problem and need to be addressed.

He said that this election is critically important – we must get the off-field organisation right.

He confirmed that he and Gowers have come to this nomination process separately and independently, but he confirmed he will be supporting Gowers as president because he has the right experience and skill set.

Tops, usually enjoy your post's and welcome the trading news you bring no matter the outcome and have actively supported ITK on this board NO matter how much crap they and you cop!

But I take offence at the above cheap shot! So let me state this, I have NO affiliation or affection for the Liberal Party or in particular for the likes of Chairman Jeff. (I am still looking for my photo taken at certain Trade Hall of his image on a doormat!!) To be honest I was a rusted on Labour voter and Union man for my adult life until the circumstances that changed my daughter and families life!!!

I will never apologies or take a backwards step, and we defend my daughter or any other person with a disability with the ferocity of the great man in my avatar!!!

If you or any other poster has a problem with that, remember a society is judge by how it treats it weakest members!

I had no idea about this. How do I go about doing it?
If I recall correctly, I was invited to vote in an email containing a direct link to a uniquely identified ballot. I simply chose my candidates and submitted the ballot.

Des it seems you blame Merlino for the physical abuse of a family member. Was he responsible or did he not direct a proper investigation in the abuse. People are gunna need to understand your position to support it.

You might want to learn how to spell someone’s name correctly if you’re going to canvass votes for them.

Hi Jeff

You are a very unconvincing propagandist, probably because your case is so weak. Your arguments are about as convincing as Mr Putins for invading the Ukraine.

'We are the second wealthiest club in the AFL' - I'd like some evidence for that statement.

New coach and what will be the youngest list in the AFL' - can't argue with that, but an experienced list in the premiership window would be vastly better to my mind.

A fully owned $100 mill training facility completed within 3 years, the best in the country which we will own - Many promises have been made about Dingley and currently they are that, promises. Vaporware. I'd rather have Granny's than Dingley. perhaps this represents the clubs misdirection of recent years, concentrating resources in the wrong directions.

'80K + MEMBERS' Makes us 20,000 behind the leader, ranked 6th, many say our numbers are boosted by 'dodgy' memberships.

'Good governance and sound decisions' - LOL. I hope you are making a joke, because I don't think many folks believe that.

'More of the same Vote 1 Nankivell' Nankivell can shove his head up Jeffs clacker and stay there. He obviously likes it there and is familar with the position.

Jeff trying to campaign for his preferred candidates in the latest members email....
Errrgh, it’s a bit heavy on it, isn’t it.
