Clarkson is making it very easy for him to be personally demonized through all of this.

Our club was implicit in supporting the context that resulted in the enquiry - but Clarkson is now taking the microphone and drawing attention to himself with it all.

All the comments from current Hawthorn people (Reeves and Mitchell) were very straight-bat answers. Kennett was Kennett and did the default political answer.

As soon as you start throwing lightning bolts like Clarkson is - you get painted as the loony on the hill. It actually doesn't matter how right or wrong he is. Hawthorn will keep rolling and not responding to the provocations.

Sigh - Big Al has moved a long way from the "don't complain, don't explain" mantra he started with.

Sam gave his blood, sweat and tears out on the field every time he took it for 15 years. His total contribution to the club far outweighs any player we've had this century. Now he is taking us into our next era as coach with nothing but class. We ride with him.

Putting myself in Clarkson's position; he must be excruciatingly frustrated. Tbf, it's totally justified. A constant running commentary without a rebuttal - it's like being poked or prodded while you're not allowed to swat the hand away.

I think he'd regret his comments, though. He had a weak moment, but at the end of the day, if the findings favour him, it should be a moot point.

Had no joy watching Clarko interview at the end of his tenure, but it was funny during interviews when he'd be on his tangent and the other panellists were looking around and shifting uncomfortably waiting for an opportunity to interject that was never coming. Every time you could see they felt a window coming up he'd throw something like 'first and foremost' in and it'd start again.

I have to admit this is probably the first year that I've really paid attention to our coach talking at press conferences and so on. Previous years I might watch one or two but it'd generally pretty generic and void of anything of value. Mitch has been a breath of fresh air and really is open about what we are trying to do.

He is definitely more about uniting the team and supporters and taking everyone on the journey together.

Reeves joined in late 2017, some 12 months after the issues reportedly occurred.
So it didn't happen on his watch (he would be relieved by that) but he does have accountability for how the club responds to the situation.

Its the first time I have heard criticism of him or suggestions that he wont survive.

Seen it reported that the word "selfish" was used by Clarko to describe Sam. Guessing the person either misheard "selfless" or it was Freudian slip from Clarko.

Either way, the whole thing seems like a bit of a beat up. Clarko should probably find another anecdote to convey this type of message if he's going to be throwing barbs at the club for the foreseeable future.

Maybe he was saying Mitchell could have been selfish and attempted to play his own game, but instead was selfless and did the team-first thing?

Or maybe he was saying Mitchell simply used to be selfish and play his own game, but matured for the betterment of the team?
