Please don’t bring Barrett’s sliding doors rubbish here. That’s not the Hawthorn footy club in the media.

That’s a desperate article, trying to get clicks every week.

Yes Whateley must be right that this is a beat up. The slam dunk evidence of authenticity was Whateley relating how Clarko started talking about getting ‘licks of the ice cream’. No possible way he made that up.
In fact I wonder if Clarko was asked again about the inquiry/review/investigation thing, he’d reply ‘First and foremost, in my view this is a self-licking ice cream, a self-perpetuating system that has no purpose other than to sustain itself.’

EDIT

too good to even be possible. I had to check. You got me

it was written by - Howard Kimber
If we get all our allotted draft picks at the end of this season, he'll have to be on suicide watch.

Putting myself in Clarkson's position; he must be excruciatingly frustrated. Tbf, it's totally justified. A constant running commentary without a rebuttal - it's like being poked or prodded while you're not allowed to swat the hand away.

I think he'd regret his comments, though. He had a weak moment, but at the end of the day, if the findings favour him, it should be a moot point.
Yes it wasn't a great analogy and he should have just left Sam out of it.

But I agree that it must be incredibly stressful for Clarko, Fagan and Burt to have had no opportunity to tell their side of the story for over 6 months now.

As you say it would be like constantly being poked with a metaphorical stick for 8 months straight, sooner or later you are going to lose your s..t.

very rude questionning
The way I would have answered that question would have meant they would never ask me on the show again. The pits these morons dive too is staggering. You bust your arse all summer to get fit and play but only to go half hearted or concoct some make believe result. I mean seriously, WTF is going through these idiot's minds.

They bitch and moan when we are spanking everyone when we are at the top and how unfair it is on those at the bottom and how they should be assisted. But then we reach the bottom and it appears we should also not be allowed to use the same mechanisms available to every team that reaches the bottom to improve.

And then you get brain dead suggestions about all sorts of reasons on how to stop tanking by introducing ways of not rewarding those at the bottom. So if North finished on the bottom for 4 years straight and lost out in a lottery in every one of those years of taking the first pick, that would somehow solve the issues? So lets now interfere again and decide how and when that will not apply because they will never improve.

These blokes get paid for proposing this shit and setting the agenda for discussion because.............they are media or ex footballers. Spare me

TBF to Robbo, he actually thinks it's a joke people in the media are running with us 'tanking'. His articles in the Herald Sun clearly show this.

I think he was just offering an opportunity for Impey to shoot it down as nonsense.

Couldn't agree more!

I think Robbo gets a rough deal on this forum simply because he's an Essendon fan.

I actually find him to be much more objective and impartial (even when discussing the Dons) than Whateley, who can't hide his obvious bias towards Geelong and is incapable of being objective about the Cats.

The irony is, adelaide, hawthorn, eagles, north. They never intentionally tanked to short the cycle.

They just found themselves there and adjusted recruiting accordingly.

And yet the media returns to the story over and over

I think Robbo gets a rough deal on this forum simply because he's a brain dead moron who can barely string a sentence together in English. A man who blusters about but when you stop and look at what he says it actually amounts to not much. He's anything but objective and impartial he's an idiot (the only thing I agree with is Whateley is an bias towards the cats - also speaks like he thinks he's smarter than everyone else though he's just some outer suburban bloke who likes to bang on about sport like most of us)

I haven't watched any for a very long time and I'm seriously better for it.
I gave up about 3 years ago the only time we get any significant air time it’s all negative, when there it’s anything positive, you blink and it’s over very quickly, like one of our upcoming players, yet when they mention a young player from another club they go into a very detail conversation about them

Doubt if it’s change since then

It's not just the Hawks stuff for me it's the click bait almost desperate nature of these shows now. Everybody, even within the same shows themselves, they seem to be constantly competing against each other to be more outrageous or controversial in their opinions.
I really miss the good old days of the original Talking Footy for example. It was just talking about footy. It was interesting and informative.

I think that desperate need for controversy relates somehow to people's need to be triggered in order for them to engage past giving content more than a cursory glance.

It's a real feature of current media across the board.

Really disconcerting that this is seemingly the most marketable form of news and entertainment for our game and everything else right now.

It's like peak level dumbing down of things, but my guess is the bar can go even lower. In the US for example, there are 'news' organizations who actively lie and spread disinformation as entertainment in place of actual news. Kane Cornes has stated that this is the content he looks to when framing his output of footy news, and planning his weekly cycle.

So the AFL can go at least one more step in that direction as a whole. Leaving the facts behind almost seems the next logical step.
