So if a woman shares a cab she is asking to be assaulted? Honestly, with attitudes like that out there I dread to have a daughter - and if I have one she'll be highly trained in some form of martial art so if some Neanderthal thinks her wearing something or catching a cab is an excuse to forcibly assault her sexually - then it will be him hurting and not her.

See, that's called being 'proactive'. It's a good thing!

Anyone else disgusted that they turned a potential rape case into nothing but headline bait.
It's how the majority of the media seems to.work not surprised

Depending on the context, she may not have put herself in a good position. We need less outrage over victim blaming and more emphasis on protecting ourselves for the world we live in.

Same goes for the players; we often hear that a player hasn't done anything wrong, but gets criticised for being in the wrong place at the wrong time of day.

Depends on your definition of lady.
To me, lady carries a level of class.

Again (and again), doesn't make it right or acceptable.
But I will select those for which I shed tears.
Stranger r*ped in park with knife. Yea
Girl catches a taxi with two footballers, I reserve my judgement.
Jesus ****ing Christ what's wrong with, what's wrong with hooking up with 2 guys?(not saying she was) it's perfectly fine, different stripes for different folks, some people are into piss play some into fart pr0n(sorry if that's being crude) that doesn't give you the right to judge their character specially not on one action. To even suggest you have little to no remorse for a rape victim regardless of their action prior is ****ing disgusting, you want to throw around who and what is a "lady" youre certainly not a gentlemen, we know that as a fact.

There is no context where the end result of sexual assault is ok.
If someone gets bashed walking home at night and we blame them for walking home what are we saying about our society?
Victim blaming is condoning what was done to the victim, in this case saying sexual assault was OK in this instance because... It is not OK

I thought i was very, very clear earlier in the thread. Obviously not.

I'll paste my post in (again).

Deviate from this and you will get a thread ban. Simple.

.......

Let me be very, very clear about the moderators position in this thread.

We don't want speculation on the alledged victim. And we don't generalist, misogynistic comments about women, rape and 'consensual sex'.

We all hope this story has nothing to it, but until we know more let's all show some restraint and respect.I will wan

Personally speaking, if this allegation has substance to it, and if proven, doesn;t matter who the player is, I hope the player cops the whack of the law.

Finally, I will remind all opposition supporters that this is the Hawthorn Board, the leeway we give you will be very, very tight, so post respectfully.

No - the outrage over victim blaming is about the only outrage wagon I'll hitch too. It's still way too common to hold women responsible for sexual assault when that is absolute bullshit. I live in Richmond and frequently see very drunk women walking around / sometimes alone. Never has it gone through my mind 'I could totally have my way with her'. I see women running by themselves and never think 'she's asking to be assaulted'. The people that need to be asked questions of are the men who think that women being drunk, wearing skimpy attire or having the audacity of being out and about at night by themselves throws the concept of consensual sex out the window. As someone who was born to a woman, whose sister is a woman and who is married to a woman - I shudder to think that any of them could fall victim to such backward, bullshit thinking.

There is both subtle and unsubtle victim blaming going on in this thread which is totally unwarranted.

To mods: can you please card the low life's that keep posting stuff like 'rapes barely get found guilty in Victoria...' 'Something about females lying...' 'Let's wait to hear what the verdict is and if it's not guilty then the woman should be charged'

This is totally disrespectful and is ******* disgusting to read.

I feel awful about what has happened, and it's not because I support the Hawks and it involves a Hawks player; it's because there's a young woman in clear distress and anguish.

Mods please the original comment is just going too far. As a woman who has been r*ped it is offensive. Let's remember no is no in a taxi with three guys at a party wherever.

I don't think it is victim blaming to suggest that we make better decisions that could lead to avoiding violence or sexual assault, it's just a way that we learn from experience to better protect ourselves.

My point is that victim blaming is often a misnomer, and what people are really doing is taking responsibility for their own safety.

Some posters need to apply the rule about posting after a loss.
Sleep it off, wait till your brain is functioning again and then maybe post your thoughts.
Those victim blaming, go have a beer with Mike Tyson.
It's 2015 and the "she was asking for it" types still exist, oh boy wow wee!

Report the post and I'll deal with it.
