Is it bad that I'm relieved that it's not a premiership player and the one whose name has been so freely bandied about on the main board. It doesn't change the fact that I'm appalled by the situation and I wish nothing but the best for the young girl in question - I'm just relieved it wasn't the young man being talked about.

I'm relieved as there's a good chance I didn't spend a good deal of this past season cheering on a potential rapist. I just hope this gets dealt with quickly by the relevant authorities. If we have someone at our club capable of such disgusting actions then I want them summarily discarded as quickly as possible.

I don't disagree with that. It's just that a lot of people don't really understand (or appear not to understand) what rape is.

This is a subject i know way too much about.....
Lethality yes you are correct, but generally those into that sort of lifestyle have willing victims .. but as much as I think it is necessary to say that rape is really misunderstood, right now we need to focus of this incident and see what the evidence says.

If my daughter came home in a taxi with two footballers she'd hardly met, I'd question her identity, because she wouldn't. But if one of my sons came home in a taxi with a girl he'd just met and had been accused of assaulting her, I would question allowing him in the door. So if a woman shares a cab she is asking to be assaulted? Honestly, with attitudes like that out there I dread to have a daughter - and if I have one she'll be highly trained in some form of martial art so if some Neanderthal thinks her wearing something or catching a cab is an excuse to forcibly assault her sexually - then it will be him hurting and not her.

Situations like this really polarise opinion and bring out the best in some and the worst in others.

I love my club and will back the players all the way but I really hope the club plays a very straight bat to this. The player needs support but there can be no fudging or covering up. Even if there is nothing to it, this should serve as a reminder to treat women with respect regardless of the setting or circumstances.

For what it's worth, I think everyone is deserving of respect unless/until they prove otherwise.
