I heard on FOX that the Hawthorn Prelim is going to be on the Saturday Night.

Surely if Freo or Port make it, that the start time is pushed forward accordingly so that the travelling side can make it home that night in case they get up to prepare for the GF. Only if the Richmond fairytale survives to the Prelims should the game be at night.

Hawthorn v Fremantle - Afternoon 2:30pm
Hawthorn v Port Adelaide - Twilight 5:10pm
Hawthorn v Richmond - Night 7:50pm

They threw that rule out of the window when the Fremantle/Sydney PF was a night game last year.

Only because Sydney would not have been able to make the airport curfew if the game had been played in the afternoon anyway, flying west to east with time.

In this case, the travelling side would be going home the other way, east to west, flying against time.

Personally, I think both Prelims should be played on Saturday with the games played at different grounds, back to back on TV - 2:10pm & 5:10pm starts.

Agree. From memory the 2012 Hawthorn v Adelaide prelim was held at 5.10 for this reason

If Freo make the Prelim, you'd think it would be better if they just stay in Melbourne if they beat us. They'd have to fly back to Melbourne earlier anyway in time for the grand final parade etc.

Was a 5:45pm local game from memory, which fits in with TV times in the eastern states better (7:45pm start). But yeah, also made no difference because the Swans would have had to stay overnight either way.

This debate is getting really tiresome. If a later flight home or a couple of hours really affects the team so much, then they shouldn't be playing football. Seriously. Anywhere anytime. That is how a premiership is won.

I agree. Staying in Melbourne is a better idea. Maybe, pay North Melbourne for the use of their facilities.

Hawks will smash us anyway.

Geelong a couple of years ago played West Coast in a 2:30pm Melbourne time bounce down at the MCG in a preliminary final. A Hawks vs Freo prelim will be a 2:30pm bounce down (Melbourne time).

Hawks were screwed when the 2012 PF time vs Adelaide was a twilight 5:10pm start.
