Wrong. Hawks did what they had to do by the rules of the AFL.
Correct. For reference below, once the HFC had the report outlining serious allegations they were duty bound by the AFL’s protocol to hand over the report to the AFL integrity unit.

I will pin this post, as it seems to be a constant query.

I can’t imagine any universe where the AFL would want this to go ahead.

Which is why it should. Get it where the AFL can’t stage manage it and cover up everything they can.
I really hope everyone gets to say their piece, explain their actions, speak their heart and that everyone can learn from this cluster*.

Ultimately, the players want to do the right thing here, which is take this out of the AFL’s hand and allow Clarkson and Fagan an opportunity to speak for themselves.

I actually have hope that we might head down the right path with this now, as messy as it most likely will still be.

Was I the only one incredibly unimpressed by Jeff's letter? It felt incredibly disingenuous from a man with his long history of racism. The whole part about all the achievements of our Indigenous players had really strong "I have black mates, so I can't be racist" vibes. Also really not a fan of his subtle denial of the pre-Batemen recruiting policy.
Yes I agree with you.
To name drop Cyril when it was Kennett himself who essentially was the reason Cyril retired 2 years before he planned to, is galling indeed.
Nor does Kennett shed any light as to how, after the AFL received the report, "certain members of the families of those who told their story had also been interviewed by an ABC journalist". He's implying the AFL leaked the report to the ABC journo or the players' family contacted the journo direct.

It's all suitably vague, full of motherhood statements and superficially reassuring at the same time.
It's a crafty, clever letter.

Does anyone have any faith in the AFL finding something all parties will agree with ?

I cant see how it doesnt end up in court.

Perhaps. I’d just be careful about suing if the subjects of this article are going to testify in court.

His political experience most certainly on display

Co-authored by someone, I'd suggest.

Doesn’t matter what he writes people will find issues with it. Personally thought it read well and hit the right notes.

Yes, I confess when I see the name Jeff Kennett my first reaction can be negative, but that letter was excellent.

Ash Browne stating on Hawks Insiders that the club have had lots of support from current sponsors who feel that the investigation has been handled really well by the club.

He also said speaking to others around the industry that Hawhorn have built a good reputation under Sam and that the club don’t expect to see or feel any commercial impact as much as this will continue to play out. They await to see if membership numbers feel the hit, but they feel that the separation between Sam’s “Hawthorn” and when the events took place has been beneficial.
I believe the line in the Egan report is that the club is currently culturally safe (or have I misheard that) which gives me some comfort

Those Hawthorn champions are part of our history. Their achievements reflect who we are as a club. JK is pointing to that factual background to provide some context in this issue which is saturated with hearsay and opinion. Not really a fan of denying or shaming our successes here respectfully.

I'm waiting for him to say he is staying on as President to lead the club out of the quagmire the club management have put us in. Just wait, it'll happen.

If he's the best man for the job to do that, then so be it.
We need to move on from Jeff as quickly as possible, and get new blood into the seat.

Is Nank gonna be able to handle this?

Is Jeff
Incoming will take over a steady ship heading in the right direction and anything that comes out of this can be put back on previous administration

Keeping Jeff sets that back

For a club that is usually media savvy and prides itself on; 'talk to the media about our narratives, not theirs' our 'internal review' being played out in the public domain is somewhat mystifying..!
Notwithstanding R.Jacksons ABC article, in hindsight why didn't the club enagage a law firm who then outsourced the report to Phil Egan with 'In-confidence, not for public dissemination' at the top of every page, ensuring the report is subject to legal professional privilege?

Accordingly I suspect our 'anonymous' former indigenous players/families mentioned in the report will likely recieve restitution, but not specifically related to their allegations, more for how our club poorly planned and conducted a commissioned report that has now been released to the public..!

Despite HFC's good intentions this has now evolved into a convoluted situation from a legal perspective creating a challenging environment for natural justice to accurately ascertain the related allegations.
For one thing Egan offered/promised all players interviewed anomality for their 'truth telling', however due mainly to the related media reports they are now being told that to undertake productive mediation this is no longer possible...

I've also no doubt other clubs considering the same exercise will learn from our mistakes to avoid this trial by media schmozzle...!!!
