Wrong. Hawks did what they had to do by the rules of the AFL.
Correct. For reference below, once the HFC had the report outlining serious allegations they were duty bound by the AFL’s protocol to hand over the report to the AFL integrity unit.

I will pin this post, as it seems to be a constant query.

I think HMC's posts have been pretty reasonable. Don't agree with some of it, but this is a discussion board and opinions that are thought out and well presented are fine by me.
I hope Clarko coaches again for the sake of North - they need a break/hope.

All I'm basically doing is reiterating what Clarko has made abundantly clear - he doubts he will get a fair hearing given the manic media reporting thus far. I totally agree. The hand wringers will not be satisfied with anything other than a clear guilty verdict IMO.

Outsider looking in.

This is a fascinating scenario. I have no allegiances either way (except I do rate the Hawks as clearly the best performing club of the past 50 years ) I'd suggest if Clarko, Fagan and Co are fully exonerated (and that's the best case scenario for them which means it's probably unlikely) then the current media won't accept it nor let it go. Arguably their reputations have already been permanently tainted regardless of the investigative outcome and I'm not sure that they can perform meaningful senior roles in the AFL going forward.

We watch with interest.

I feel like you are underestimating the power of shortish memories, “good bloke” discounts and the footy world’s restorative powers (inc. much of the media) of just letting things slide after a while because someone was good at kicking a ball (or telling others how to do so), sometimes even if they weren’t “exonerated”

Agree that the broader landscape on matters problematic is different these days, but I’m not convinced that football has cast aside its old-school values just yet. Maybe this is the tipping point? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ye good take on it. Hope you're right but call me an old cynic.......not so sure.

But what if you weren’t innocent of allegations? Would you take it to court then?
Plenty of examples of people that aren't innocent using the courts to silence or punish their accusers.

But my favourite attempt at going the defo route when you shouldn't have is Ben Roberts-Smith

The shit that went public from that was amazingly bad for him, just got to wait for however many months the verdict takes to see if any of that actually matters....

in Ben Roberts-Smith’s case, it’s quite likely that his bringing defamation proceedings may end up with him facing criminal charges and serious jail time.

Grand isn't it

Broker a deal with families?!

This needs full transparency and all people need to be held accountable
This can be better outcome for the family's they will get absolutely rammed and grilled in court.

Getting a pay day without the stress of court and having long term support from Hawthorn with their voice being heard isn't a terrible outcome.

A mediation approach is the right outcome for the families. Also for Hawthorn if we genuinely understand and address issues raised (if not already), and continuously critically review our performance in this area on an ongoign basis.

But it will give the media the sh*ts & we'll cop it massively for perceptions of trying to dodge accountability.

It also is a bad outcome for Clarko and Fagan - they don't get the opportunity to defend themselves.

Yeah that was a dumb move on his part. Can’t see the judges ruling in his favour but even if he does his reputation is worse off for the court case.

In the long run this would benefit the club, the league and future players the most. But I fear it won’t benefit the familes the most. They would like have to revisit trauma and be put under intense pressure.

Or heaps more can come forward demanding money without having their claims tested.
Under mediation, it is tested to the club’s satisfaction. The club can use whatever standard it wants to assess claims. Obviously the outcome needs to be mutually agreed with the claimant. So in theory all parties are happy.

Bolts never too far away!

I am surprised by Clarko's comments even last night, furthered by Hood's. They are holding firm on defending and seemingly on the path that everything will be alright.

I would be hopeful for a full enquiry for the sake of the club. We need to get to the bottom of this and know as well as possible what happened and learn for the better.
