Wrong. Hawks did what they had to do by the rules of the AFL.
Correct. For reference below, once the HFC had the report outlining serious allegations they were duty bound by the AFL’s protocol to hand over the report to the AFL integrity unit.

I will pin this post, as it seems to be a constant query.

Mitchell has taken the first few steps towards proper healing such as instigating this review and appointing an Indigenous development manager. All our current Indigenous players have indicated they feel comfortable and safe in the current environment. In the club statement, it was mentioned that: “while the process indicated the current environment at the club is culturally safe, it also recommended that some of the club’s current First Nations training and development programs should continue to be strengthened.” I’m happy this was acknowledged and am expecting the club to show more initiative towards strengthening culturally appropriate programs.

Reading that article what transpired is unforgivable. It is an infringement on human rights stemming from a win at all costs mentality. Our head coach and key members of our coaching staff gaslighted vulnerable adolescents trying to establish their careers in the most horrific way possible. All three of the named perpetrators are thankfully no longer here and anyone that was complicit should no longer be at our club. I hope the victims receive proper acknowledgement and support. It's going to take a massive effort to heal these wounds.

Massive overreact. Penalise the whole club and its future because of the mistakes of a few who are no longer involved at the club.

I didn’t say that’s what should happen mate.

I said at this point in time we shouldn’t care. Far more important issues to deal with and think about than on field performance right now.

I just shared the story about Leigh Matthews being dead serious in telling players not to have sex in December so they wouldn’t ruin finals with a birth of a child. Obviously some coaches and officials have a weird take on what they’re allowed to demand of players.

I’d like to think people that pathological weren’t at our club - but unfortunately humans can be very bloody odd so you never know.
Yeah i know about Mathews policy. But this is at a level where i find hard to believe.I mean to go at the lengths they did according to the report.Ya know i just can't see it myself.Maybe i'm wrong.(Shrugs Shoulders)

2012 was only a decade ago.
2016 was 6 years.
Clarko was still around only a last year.

The buck does not stop in the past, it must pass through the whole admin structure.
We won't lose draft picks, but we should not be thinking about footy performance in times like these.
Making excuses like this is why we continue to have cultural problems, especially with first nations people, all through the past two decades after our supposed "awakening" from our white-only recruitment policy.

One thing I think we need to be careful amid all this - the 'few rotten apples' defence doesn't really fly, for me.

Clarkson, Fagan and Burt have been named, but we're deluding ourselves if we truly think it was just a couple of people to blame for what clearly appears to be a systemic issue at the club that we've all heard whispers about for a long, long time.

Yes the so called individuals are gone. But it happened at the club and under the clubs watch. If the board allowed the middle managers the power and freedom to run the club into the ground. The board and upper management essentually just as guilty as the people named. The club cannot and should not claim innocence because it is same as Essendon board claims no knowledge over the crap that under Hird. For me the club is guilty as the coaches involved to allow the coaches the security, power to even contemplate that what happens was ok. This is like Pope hiding priests and claim at least the Pope doesn't do bad things.

I think people can take solace in the fact Rioli replied to Mitchell it might have been limited and short but it shows Cyril has some form trust and respect for Mitchell and the movement of inclusiveness he's trying to create.

Wasn't it unprotected sex ? Don't think it's actually that bad of a request if You're wanting to have kids . Is it really that bad to hold off on unprotected sex for just around a month of a year ?
To give context to what others have said, it can be quite difficult for some couples to fall pregnant. Trying month after month for disappointment after disappointment can be a very stressful, very emotional process. If you're in that position and are then asked to "hold off" for a month or two, you'd be pretty ****ing livid. So yes, it's a pretty terrible thing to ask of players.

Will Karl Amon change his mind?

I don't see why he would. We were already taking action on our indigenous affairs before he signed.

Those accused aren't at the club anymore.

It didn't stop players continuing to nominate Essendon after the supplement issue.

Some people might say that it's not related. But when your club has a President happy to own a Golliwog, and name it after an indigenous player, this is what you get.

Something seriously wrong at a cultural level within the HFC for people to want a guy like that representing us. Accepting that behavior is accepting the message.

Agree.
Amon would've already signed the contract and knew that the investigation had taken place.

Sorry. That's not the way it works, sport.
Hawthorn is a corporate entity and is and remains responsible for the disgraceful (and possibly criminal) conduct of its employees.

Applying your logic, Essendon became blameless and not deserving of any penalty (or shame?) for its drug transgressions the minute Hird, Thompson and the other bozos left the club !!

One thing is for sure, we as a club never had the systems/ indigenous welfare officers at our club when it was badly needed to assist. (The gentleman that was previously interviewed after the Cyril release told us it was a role he held that was part time and basically ticking a box by the club and the culture was one of “win at all costs”)

Hawthorn said back when the report was commissioned they would be making no further comment until the findings of the report were in.

Why did the ABC run with it online before we made any comment?

It leaves us open to accusations of us trying to cover things up again.

Some tough times ahead for our club.
