Well then, why do we deride the countless Facebook, Twitter trade pages?

They're providing precisely the same service.

Who does? I don't... and who cares? Don't even see that as a relevant response to be honest.

It's not a service anyway when a poster offers some information and that's the point. Don't take it as if others posters haven't met their service requirements. You aren't being made a promise, just being given an insight that apparently has some basis but as I said "isn't over the line until it's over".

Just sounds like you're looking for a reason to be upset. If that's the case then make it with the player who has shunned us, or even with the club who wasn't prepared to make the deal you wanted. Seems absolute toddler level stuff to have a tantrum at posters whose information didn't come to pass though. They don't have a bearing on the outcome.

Its a bay thing.

Ill try and remember to change it back before I post in this thread.

I love the way we say nothing the whole way through and we should be applauded for the way we do business.

I know you do the negative thing and that's cool, but I think you've got this one wrong.

Did anyone from Hawthorn ever actually say that we were after Shiel this past month?? I mean from the club directly.

Because I don't remember it. It seems like a few convinced themselves that he was a monty and have worked themselves into a tizz about missing out on something that might of never been in play...

Im chuffed we keep it close with no leaks, what does that gain?

Any idea if we are a realistic chance to land Wingard now, or do we just go the moneyball route and try and turn b graders into A graders.

Who thinks we overpaid for O'Meara? The deal would have been similar if we pulled the trigger on Shiel, provided he did actually want to come in the first place. I'm not sure what to believe anymore given too many were too confident and certain that he was coming.

With the list demographic that we have we need to capitalize over the next two seasons. Unless we can pluck a FB/CHB, a FF/CHF, another winger, another two class midfielders and a replacement for Stratton. Hopefully we can develop some with what we have, but that will take a few seasons at least.

People are hung up on next year. Look Shiel isn’t going to make a huge difference. He’s a mid and a statistically average one. Losing all our picks and paying him a million a year makes no sense when coniglio kelly and a range of other players become available.

I would have been devastated if we lost out on a better player next year because we shot our load on an average one this year

First up i’ll Say that I know your a proud and passionate supporter/member of our great club.

The things that I do agree with you on, is that we missed out on Lynch and Shiel. I also question why that is. Is it us as a club not being able to effectively communicate, to our potential trades our core beliefs, as to why we do things? Very Possible. Is it the club not paying over inflated value, as in picks or currency? Possibly. Or is it something that is out of the clubs control? Also possible. They questions I ask, will they be answered, probably not.

I disagree with you on last years trade period, as we didn’t have a first round pick, due to Tom and JOM the previous year. Impey has been a good get for us going by his performance this year. So I tend to see it as a glass half full, rather than empty.

The club has sent out the message to its supporters, by stating 20 flags by 2050. With the first one by 2021/ 2022? That is the message, that our potential new recruits have to buy into. Show the steps that we are implementing, explain why we won’t pay overs for our players. Reading your post, I interpreted that your saying we should give players more money to entice them.

I disagree, as I believe we should be selling them on our core beliefs, that if they truly want to be remembered as being successful, then they are going to have to sacrifice gain for success. By sacrificing money, it enables us to bring in more people, to fill more holes and roles, where we increase our depth, so we can continue to reap success.

If the players can not understand that, than we have either miscommunicated our beliefs, or the player is happy for financial reward, over being successful for a long period of time. Who knows?

Hopefully we can entice our next recruit, and our next recruit becomes a multi premiership player, like McEvoy, Gunston, Lake, Guerra ect. Shiel might get a premiership, but I have my doubts, ditto with Lynch, their loss not ours.

In a perfect world I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding the merits on how we entice players to come to hawthorn, and for the previous 8-9 years (before 17) we could sell a dream of success. The said dream is far more fanciful than reality at this present moment, we have to understand that the elite players don’t need us, we actually need them more and we may need to pay more than we’re comfortable with.

Make no mistake, alarm bells would be ringing.. like any good business operator, if you have 3-4 big swings at deals/opportunities then you’re going to reflect and look to do things differently because there’s something not right in your approach. Wrighty has the runs on the board, but it’s probably fair to say he has a bit of work to do to get back into the top bracket of operators in the league. I am sure, and I like to think it’s true that GW and Co and working on their philosophies and approach as a matter of urgency right now.

8 days to make our list better, that’s what they have, otherwise it’s to the draft where he has struggled in recent times to get quality players in with our first pick.

And what if we don't get anyone next year?

At the end of his show The Ox just popped out "Tom Scully to the Hawks."

Exactly!! I believe one of the picks had to be inside top 10! He ain’t that good.

Maybe a blessing in disguise as all the hype over Shiel has been over the top as he didn't even finish in their top 5 in the best and fairest did he?

Wingard would be a nice player to get but again I think Port are going to want ridiculous compensation as he has had two poor years.

Why not keep our 14 pick and others and go for youth whilst trying to attain some other picks for youth such as; O'Brien, Whitecross, Langford, Miles, etc?

Patton? GWS will want the world for a bloke who has some four knee constructions.

I think we should try and find some potential, young beauties in the draft now.

I honestly thought if Hawks missed out with Shiel he would go to the Blues when Russell left and Cripps a pretty handy player to play alongside; so who knows anymore as I have no idea as usual...
