They could put pick 1 on the table and we'd say no, because he's a 21 year old gun, extremely happy at Hawthorn and mid contract. Burton is what you would want your pick one to BECOME.

Let’s see how this plays out.

Burton has potential but let’s not overrate him. He’s 22 in January, was dropped during the year. He has nice skills but he’s not a KPP, not a midfielder and not a contested ball/marker.

Wingard is 25, dual AA. At his best he was a top 20 player in the comp. He has stalled the last couple years in a club that is struggling

We have seen what Clarkson can do with excellent players - make them better. He got Tom Mitchell a Brownlow within 2 years. With Wingards talent, Clarkson could do a lot.

This has Burgoyne MK2 written all over it.

Prefer to do the deal for our two first rounders than lose Burton (because Burton looks a likely 200 gamer and draft picks are lottery tickets). But I am doubtful Burton will ever be as good as Wingard

So take Burton out of it, what other player with legitimate value do we put forward along with pick 15?

If we perform as we did this year two first rounders won't cut it and players like Schoey/O'Brien/Doc and Co don't either.

On trade value...remember that Port wasn’t willing to extend Wingard’s contract beyond next season and I did mention some time back that Wingard only ever put the $1m price tag on his head as that was the money he would stay at Port for...not what he wanted from a potential suitor.

The burton talk is port propaganda until proven otherwise.

They leaked that much during the Burgoyne dealings - that this reeks of being the deal Port want, not what we have offered.

Why was it an SA based journo breaking the exclusive offer? Since when were offers exclusives? Why didn’t the vic journo who broke the actual fuqqing story also break this news corroborated by both clubs?
