It now looks less likely that Lycett will get to Port, so if we perhaps if we miss out on Shiel we will reactivate the Wingard opportunity offering Pick 14 and Ceglar. We definitely need someone classy to replace Rioli in the forward line and rotate through the middle. Poppy also isn’t getting any younger.

So we off Shiel are we? That money hungry whore with grandpa shoulders. Never wanted him anyway, one way runner and so forth haha. This thread is starting to deliver.

Can you imagine Shiel, Jaeger and Mitchell surrounding the ball, weaving through traffic. Oh man that would be sweet.

But ye, that dirty Dylan so overrated

Well ‘pal’ ;)
Reports today (last I heard) was WCE are considering matching ports offer.

Thanks pal - you’re a top bloke.

I did though hear this denied by Lycett’s Manager this morning. You would think with Gaff re-signing and then wanting to get Kelly, that they wouldn’t have the space.

They r considering matching based on the result of a late ditch effort to snare lobb!!!

You’d like to think, but your memory is playing up on you if you’ve forgotten the doping saga.

You know that there are people out there who still think the Bomber boys and all the staff had no idea what they were injecting at any time.

We’re getting off topic, but don’t underestimate the AFL’s ability to stage manage an outcome of their choosing.

As Sam Mitchell writes in his book
"I have no inside information about the situation at the time and understand that the Essendon players were poorly managed and governed, but I have always found myself falling short of calling them the victims"

"...I am still surprised they (the players) didn't oppose the program, especially the senior players who had been around a long time"

"...the players were at the lower end of the blame game, but they weren't entirely blameless... I felt sorry for the first- and second-year players... they probably didn't know any better. Never in my time at Hawthorn had I ever heard of the phrase 'supplements program'. If I was feeling a bit crook at Hawthorn, I would take a multi-vitamin. We never took anything else"

Edit: slightly off topic

Quote from the Blues thread on AR
I can't quote it because the thread is now locked, but i posted the below last Wednesday in the Bluemour Discussion thread:

"Yep. And we're also up against the widely accepted 2nd most important man at Hawthorn, fitness expert Andrew Russell. Who just happens to be best friends with Dylan's future father in law Choco.

In the Shiel race, both us and Hawthorn hold aces. I suppose that's why it's 50/50 still on the eve of an announcement."

Isn't it funny how things change? We removed an ace and added it to ours.
Surely he's off to the Blues.

Agreed, we clearly don’t have the currency to satisfy GWS and I’d be disappointed if we gave up our first picks this year and next. As I don’t believe Shiel is even in the best 30 midfielders in the competition.

If he wanted to come to only Hawthorn, today was the day to nominate.

It’s a little cherry on top of the Andrew Russel shit sundae.

Major blow missing out on Shiel if true, especially after Lynch going to the Tigers. The whole 'rebuild as we go' thing isn't going to work if we cannot consistently add top talent and there's no point. His loss I suppose wasting his prime at a cellar-dweller club like Carlton, hope we've got something else up our sleeves.

I don't quite understand the mentality of the Blues players going to Carlton. Is it just for the cash. In that cash, they're in a lot of trouble, as they are paying over market value (i.e. outbidding everyone) on numerous players in the short term, which will cause problems with equity over the list in the long term.

If it's for premierships, i'm not quite sure what they see? How do they expect the second tier players to go from GWS (which can't win a premiership) to Carlton and suddenly win a premiership with an inferior side?

Finally, is it just so all the mates can play together? If so, then it's a joke of a decision by so called professionals.

To be fair (why be fair? I’ve got no friggin idea) but to be fair, the Blues have been making a big investment off field. Coaching, training, facilities. It’s a club that has a shot.

It can also, most likely, wither in a mess of mediocrity or worse. But if you’re a gambler then it may appeal.
