They were celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 1996 premiership.

Don't know why they picked our game. I think they think we are their big rivals, and we would appreciate it. Unfortunately, most Hawthorn supporters don't even know where North Melbourne is.

Last year they were celebrating their 1975 premiership.

See how that turned out!
I tend to disagree with you there. Hawthorn played NM in 3 grand finals in 4 years in the 70's. In essence they where our Essendon rivalry of the 70's. There mid 90's team of Carey and Co. Was one of the most impressive squads I remember which started at an Under 19's level under Pagan. And sure they have been whingy the last few years, but NM have always been a blue collar, battler club that you can always expect to go 12 rounds with.

They will be able to for 2 of the next 3 years - 40 yr of 1977, 20 yr of 1999.

Edited for accuracy. They lost in 1998.

We had something like a reunion night on Saturday at the MCG celebrating the 76 and 86 flags. Unfortunately I missed it to watch the Wallabies put in a stinker across the road at AAMI Park.

Late to the party... but how good was Bruest's mark in the goal square? Especially after being targeted all night.

It was digusting the way Norf kept targeting Bruest all game.
Watched a replay last night, and noticed this - anyone know why? Has Breust got a reputation of losing focus when niggled? Payback?

Also, has anyone seen vision of Petrie's hit on Mitchell that led to a down field shot on goal or us (Q2)?

I think it might be because Breust is considered a soft target. Just to be clear, not saying Breust is soft. Far from it. He just simply doesn't retaliate. Just shows how brave North are targeting the one guy who is as close to a pacifist as we have on our list.

I went to those 3 grand finals - hated 1975!

I agree with you to a point, they have had some success, but we've left them behind a long time ago.

I still can't believe Jordan Lewis is getting a game. Drop him, retire him .

31 disposals - 18 contested possessions - 11 clearances - 74% disposal efficiency

Jeez we would be in some sort of trouble without him in the team. After a slow start to the year, he has been brilliant. Back to his 2014 best. Great game Lewy...... again.

Well just have to honour them both with the 2016 flag.

We're going to have a busy couple of years in 20 years' time. We'll have 20, 30, 40 and 50 year premiership anniversaries every year!

Spot on. I was talking to a mate about this on Saturday night. Breust would have to be the most 'pure' ball player on our list, maybe in the AFL. If there was a poster boy for playing the ball he would be it and he is bloody good at it.

The amount of times he was grabbed around the throat, held and jostled off the ball was pretty poor. I would be embarrassed if I was Firrito or if I was an umpire looking back at his treatment during the game for that matter.

They would know that getting into Cyril and Poppy would be a mistake, they targeted the kids and the quieter players like Punky to try and put them off their game.
As a tactic it was a good idea, they asked questions of all of the right players, I'm sure part of Clarko's joy at the end of that game wasn't just that the boys all stayed disciplined but that those who copped the niggle didn't wilt under the pressure and all contributed to the win

That 4 weeks in the gym to put on some lean muscle really worked out well didn't it ;)

Agreed. Clarko was elated. There's no match-simulation for finals, but North managed to dish up a little tester sample for all our young blokes, and the Hawks gave SFA back to theirs.

Firritto hit him high with a fist and several elbow in the first quarter. Absolutely a free kick was warranted. With four umpires how does that still not get noticed? North had just kicked a goal so its not like the ball was in motion. I'm sure we will highlight this to the AFL during the week and ask that it be better monitored next time around.

Funny really when you consider who they are coached by. Does anyone even remember the Scott boys hitting anyone with a tough reputation during their playing days, they were all bluster, pee and wind. All I remember them for was being the first defenders to start getting in the face of players after kicking a goal, now everyone dose it and one of them running into Saint Nick when coming off the ground injured.
In saying all of the above I wouldn't say they ever took their eye of the ball when it was their turn, just they were never the hard tough men they are made out to be.

I supported tige19's suggestion that Jordan Lewis retire ... in a few years time.

Maybe in 2021?

But unlike Squealing Snot, we won't make a big deal of it!

Matthew 'talks like he has an acquired brain injury' Lloyd's take on North tactics:

"I liked it because THEY PLAYED GREAT FOOTY WITH IT"

"They've gone up in my estimations and they won many admirers"

I'm pretty sure me and Lloydy live on totally different planets and I couldn't be happier about that.

I have no issue if teams want to play the tough act. Of course it would help their cause if they didn't go missing when it really gets tough in the last quarter like the captain of the Roos did in the last Quarter. It is meaningless otherwise.

I'd like the club to clarify 2 points with the AFL though.
  1. Are we allowed to touch an opposition's head and/or neck? Seemed to happen a fair bit with no consequence so maybe it is now allowed
  2. What constitutes an off-the-ball / late hit.

I'm happy for the media to puff the chests of the Norf players up. Give them their congratulations at a "brave" loss where they played "tough" and showed they weren't the Hawks bunnies

The way they were all so happy about losing a close one apparently only because of the umpires is exactly why they get no respect for being an actual contender

They replayed is on the down field camera angle (from behind the goals). Mitch was just run through, no jostling or anything, it was clear as day and another cheap shot. Poor Sammy cops it every game.

If consistency was going to be a factor, then based on the Hawkins suspension then he should get a week based solely on the fact he did it more than once but id be surprised if that happened. Then again if they do that then Cyril may also get one for going into bat for him

Less care couldn't be given with our record of actually winning premierships since whatever anniversary you are celebrating....yep we've dominated the comp since your 15 minutes many moons ago, whatever club your are we've got you covered...easily.:D
Our anniversary years would be anything ending in a 1 (three times), 3 (twice), 4, 5, 6(twice), 8 (three times) or 9. The odd number out is 6 - we need to win this year to keep the pattern going.
