Autopsy Hawthorn v the great pretenders

Spud got a career high in jumper punches tonight. Absolute poetic justice at the end.

North train to win free kicks; Hawthorn train to kick goals. That's why North will only ever be flat-trackers.

Silk, you're beautiful.

Stratton and Gibson should get a free go at kicking Clarkson in the balls as a result on continually having to get decapitated trying to break even against players 10cm and 15kg bigger than them because the coach refuses to play a KPD who is continually performing at VFL level and has performed in his limited time in the AFL. It's taking 2 mid-sized defenders to kill a contest that 1 Kaiden Brand can kill.

Hats off to Ben Stratton. You had Sam Grimley hearing footsteps all night despite Grims monstering Stratts.

Brad Hill. Urgh. Had to be hidden deep in the fwd line because he couldn't have the physicality. Lucky for Hawthorn that Daw was playing. Made it 21 vs. 21.

Jordan Lewis, well done. Vintage.

McEvoy. Usual insignificant in center square. Saved by that spoil that led to the Hartung goal. Well done there.

A gutsy win. Never lost confidence even though it was in North's fwd line with 90 sec to go. Hawthorn are far too classy to let a bunch of dogs playing for frees to beat them when it counts.

Not saying his form over the last few weeks have been great but his attack at the ball and his defensive game was good tonight...
For what it is worth, I agree with you. I thought his attach on the ball was great, hard running and those two goals were critical, nothing was gifted to him, he worked hard. I was one who said probably prefer a lovell type and still think we do but probably at expense of stewart, still think all of Smith,Hartung,Hill can be too much of outside run. I would have liked to see Brandt and Lovell in last few weeks for continuity.

Game was won by the old guard so I wont harp on about them too much. We all know how good they were.

Hartung - Had an absolute mare. He was having a Langford like night with his kicking except he's getting his possessions on the outside and not the inside so it's absolutely inexcusable that he fails to hit targets. However, his speed and agility was the X-factor that gave us a couple of important goals in the second half. His defensive side is non-existent which is to be expected given his light frame but those goals saved his behind IMO. Great response.

Howe - Does almost everything right. Marks, positions himself well, reads the ball and tackles hard. The problems begin when he has the ball in hand. Just needs some fine tuning and he will be a good player for us. He's about 95% there and is just missing the cream of the top that turns him from a good ordinary player to a potential A-grader. He doesn't have speed but he has smarts. Just needs to show his smarts more often and stop doing the dumb shit that he can be prone to.

Stewart- Didn't have a huge impact (infact I don't think he was even on the field for too long). He had some nice tackles and some ground balls won which would have made Clarko proud.

TOB - Everything is coming together piece by piece with him. Just be patient and enjoy the show. He is growing in confidence every single week and he and Sicily made Scott D(ickhead) Thompson his bitch tonight.

Sicily - Wasted at half back in the first half and I was disappointed thinking that this was going to be another game of education for him rather than giving him a proper go. Surprise surprise he gets thrown in the forward line (where he belongs) and wins the match for us. Whatever he has he has it. Clarko is a genius with what he is doing for his development his confidence is sky high now.

I know we can all lavish Cyril with multiple compliments - and why wouldn't we! But to add another one, God I love how he goes in to bat for his teammates. I remember another game earlier this year, maybe the Demons game, when someone was imposing themselves on one of our young brigade and Cyril was first one in there to stand up for his teammate. The way he lives and breaths what this club is about is bloody fantastic.

and has the watch to prove it. Just needs a bit more work on his media presence and he'll be fine.

Hey Norf,

When Burgoyne tripped over his own feet I thought that was it, when something that has never happened before takes place you have to ask if the footy gods are going to deliver for you.

Everyone can moan over 2 of the Sicily frees but reality is North had us on toast and fluffed it.
Good experience for the young ones but also great to see old warriors, Lewis, Burgoyne, Mitchell and Rioli all step up in the 2nd half.
Be a very sad day when blokes of this ilk are no longer player for the almighty Hawks.

Burgers got robbed but atleast he has plenty of those watches lying around.

Good on Sic.

Good win - great win
Rest time for all the boys. Recharge the young blokes batteries ready for the run home.

North went the biff and they paid the price for their stupidity - as for spud fcukrito - what a marshmallow. When your role is to rough up players with less than 10 games, then you know that you are not a footballer a*hole

Yeh i love it too

Oh forgot to mention.

Ceglar battled manfully all night. McEvoy worked him over around the ground but Ceglar was the one who went in for the kill. The tap to Cyril was a beauty and the mark in the last quarter that led to Lewis' goal won us the game IMO.

Completely nullified Goldys influence.

You could watch North getting older as the game went on. So much energy spent sniping that they butchered the footy. What a bunch of weak frontrunners.

We struggled tonight but geez we worked hard. Plenty of awful mistakes, but the second efforts were there. You could see Burgoyne willing himself into the game. Same with Billy in the third quarter.

When Howe lined up for that shot to put us 3 goals up (which he missed) I was so effing excited because it was the kids keeping us in it. How good is it? Triple premiers, and a bunch of skinny kids stood up. So good.

They'll rattle around well in the top drawer with his premiership medallions.
