Hay Gone

The world is full of experts on Glass, who have never heard of him or seen him play. If you are waiting for an expose in the Herald Sun, or a guest spot on Talking Footy, you have missed the boat.
Unlike Judd, nobody east of the nullabor gives a rats clacker about Eagles players, and thats the way we like it. So while you are all drooling over Scarlett's media hype or Hay's average performances, we will sit back satisfied with another pants job on a quality FF by Glass.

End of Story.

Hawthorn will allow defender Jonathan Hay to complete most of his pre-Christmas training in Perth this year, to ward off any potential homesickness.

Hay will travel home after the Hawks' club championship function on October 2, and will rejoin his teammates only briefly before their Christmas break.

The club, which yesterday rejected reports that Hay had declared he would quit unless traded to a West Australian club at the end of the season, agreed to the terms when negotiating the two-year deal Hay signed three months ago.

Hawthorn football manager John Hook said last night the club had "not even considered" potential trade options for the 128-game defender. Hay's manager, Peter Christie, said Hay considered himself "a Hawthorn player" and would not leave unless he was moved on.

But Christie said Hawthorn, which drafted Hay from Kalgoorlie as a 17-year-old and in 2002 negotiated with the army for his older brother to be relocated to Melbourne, acknowledged his tendency to miss home.

"He's a Perth boy and Perth is home, I guess, but that's the end of it. Nobody's untouchable these days, so we've got to wait and see what happens, but from my point of view and Jon's point of view, he's contracted for the next two years," he said.

"He'll come to Perth for a couple of months, start pre-season training in Perth and he'll be back in Melbourne sometime around mid-December and go from there.

"That helps combat any homesickness that may or may not be there and the club don't mind because he's a good worker and a good trainer and he'll come back good as gold ready to join the group in mid-December."

Hook spoke to Hay last night, and said he had "no intention whatsoever" of quitting the club. "Obviously, there's pressure to return home to Perth . . . but he's made it pretty clear that he has no intention whatsoever of quitting the Hawthorn Football Club," he said.

Move along folks - nothing left to see in this thread.

What a load crap... all you need to see is how many goals have been kicked against him on the day which can be found under the game stats after each game.

Neitz 2 goals
Richo 2 goals
Lloyd 2 goals
Fevola 1 goal

No one is saying he is better than Scarlet (yet) but he he would definitely not be losing his spot if Hay was to come to WC, and why is that i hear you ask.... because in BF terms currently Glass > Hay

Selective - how many goals did Lloydy kick in the match before? 8?

He misses home so the club is going to send him over for a pre-season training/bonding period with another team? Sounds a bit risky and this could make him miss it more when he has to return to Melbourne.

True but he was just back from injury and had done no pre-season either.
He is still young and all i am saying he is showing very good signs at this stage of his career. He aint the best but he aint a heap of scrap metal as someone posted earlier.

Fair enough - but my point was - don't post just a few selective stats. Post em all and then a fairer judgment can be made.

Still - I agree keeping those forwards to those numbers isn't too bad, especially considering all the crap he gets from weagles suporters.

... if you haven't seen a player play, you have absolutely no idea about them and should just keep your mouth shut unless you want to further humiliate yourself.

You smart pric, you sit behind your computer screen and throw your weight around, that to me is gutless, give me your address, and we can have a personal chat about life in footy.

Glass is just OK at the minute, but when he's got an older head he should be a pretty good player.

Gold :D They only put the good stats, CD put all of them
The stats clearly show that we have had the best defence over the last 6 to 7 weeks in which Glass has been our corner stone. It took a while this year with early injuries, lack of pre-season and the blooding of a lot of youngsters but it looks like they have got it together relativley fast and are looking good for the future.
Check back to the begining of the season and you will find endless posts about West Coasts lack of talls and weak defence, so to be where we are at now, and to be able to say we have had the best defence leading into the business end of the season is something we are proud of and thankful for the efforts of Glass.

Glass is a very good FB, but it's Hunter, Lynch, Chick that have caused major improvement in our backline.
As for Hay... yeah he is Gone.

In 2000 Jonathon Hay was the best fullback in the competition and was All Australian and since he is only 25 he can surely get back to those standards he would definitely be worth having on any football team and could one day the best full back in the competition as he is considerably more athletic then Matthew Scarlett and is bigger and stronger so he could also be good up the ground at centre half back or down forward un like Scarlett who appears he may be better than Hay at fullback but he would probably less capable futher up the field than Hay.

Glass is a solid player who does his job with little fanfare, in a similar style to Shane Parker.

As for Hay, if a deal with the two W.A. AFL clubs can't be worked out, a position of captain coach at the Gummies is available.

We'll take him at the right price.

A goal-to-goal line of

Glass
Hay
Judd
Gardiner
McDougall

Looks pretty bloddy imposing if you ask me, not to mention the other talls to slot in around them, being T Gaspar, Hansen, Lynch, Hunter, Seaby, Staker and P Johnson (although one of these could head over east for Hay). For a club who, at the start of the year, didn't have a decent KPP to save themselves, we're bursting at the seams with young talls.

Good old Channel 10 news.

In the new contract Hay signed this year there was clause allowing him to spend a fair chunk of the off season training over in Perth. He will ocntinue to play for Hawthorn.

When talking about a spine Milenko. Most teams put thier ruckman in the centre. Nice inclusion of Judd. I suppose you consider him a KPP now?

B: Judd Judd Judd
HB: Judd Judd Judd
C: Judd Judd Judd
HF: Judd Judd Judd
F: Judd Judd Judd
R: Judd Judd Judd
Int: Judd Judd Judd Judd

Emer: Judd JUdd Judd

The eagles line up until the end of 2005. Interesting to see if he stays in the West.

From Kalgoorlie?

He went to Leeming SHS in the southern suburbs of Perth, and played for East Fremantle.
