Height of our list.

I would never have thought that Fish and Waitey are the same height. On the field and in person, Waitey looks HEAPS taller than Fish.

Same as Hartlett and Kennedy. They are the same height too...

Very interesting and thanks for the stats ODN :)

waitey is 194cm, fish 192, those stats on the carlton website aren't accurate. Have heard raso has grown above 190, and that lance is more a 191/192cm. Thornton 193cm and also heard bower is taller than 192 and we've all heard the kennedy 198 rumour. Basically, unless the players are very recent draftees, i mean very recent, most players have grown and the heights listed are shorter.

They need to update the players profiles ASAP. And new pics too!! :D

Ross Young dob 9/09/83 ht 178cm wt 78kg

i like ross, have seen him play a lot for the 'ants and is always a stand out player. ill be interesting to see if he gets a go at senior footy though, because he is very similar to Steve Kenner in height, but is probably a little tougher and can get the hard ball. he has a lovely left foot aswell.

i have a question though, is Hampson ready / will he be ready for Senior AFL come round 1????? and could he cope?

hampson will be lucky to get a game this yr in my opinion. only been playing for 2 years and if carlton do it right they'd give him time to learn the game a bit better before throwing him into the sea. hopefully last few rounds but other than that i doubt it.

that is a high number of large utilities and players of key position height, no doubt.
but as i'm sure you're all aware, there is no "first ruck" quality player on the list that is 197cm or more, which relatively unusual for an AFL club, and will probably be exploited by opposition teams in the next couple of years. for your sake, hopefully hampson develops well and is able to fill that role sooner rather than later, because no matter how many B-grade 194-196cm players you have, dean cox (and other similar players) will eat them for breakfast at every throw in.

We've got Hampson, Aisake o'Hailpin and Sam Jacobs all being developed as our future rucks. Hopefully atleast two fo the three will make it, and in the meantime we'll have to make do with what we've got (though Ackland isn't too bad, if he can return to his 2005 form).

Your top end doesn't look particularly tall, but what strikes me is that you have few players below 187cms.
The key to that is that those 187-189cm players lose nothing in pace compared to smaller players. A couple have elite pace. So in a one on one contest, all things being equal, they would be better off in the air. At least that is how it is supposed to work.

true, but two of the three you've nominated are rookies, and the numbers indicate that they're less likely to come through with the goods. some excellent ruckmen have indeed come off rookie lists, but there are dozens and dozens that didn't come anywhere close.
i think your recruiting manager would agree that you're still a good ruckman short of having good stocks in this area, but getting hampson this year was a good start. it's no easy task to rebuild a list that became as patchy as carlton's was 12 months ago - it'll probably take a good 5 years of patient and planned recruiting to plug the holes.
hawthorn's list had better depth than carlton's when we started rebuilding, and it's still going to take us 4 years at the draft table before we have adequate supplies of each type of player. it's a slow and painful process, but i hope that the amount of suffering that the average carlton supporter is going to endure between 2003 and 2008 pays off some with some success down the track (as long as it's not at hawthorn's expense)

Carlton stats are highly suspect in my view. Every player ever drafted by Carlton appears to grow three centermeters overnight ;)

I'd be very surprised if Carrazzo, Fisher and Thornton are as tall as listed.

Good news. And we are also the second heaviest too. :thumbsu:

Interesting that Hawthorn have the youngest playing list at an average of 22.29 years. I thought we were younger than that?

Yup we are the Tallest, 2nd youndest and the 2nd Heaviest team...all the parameters are right i guess...

BTW didnt realise just how young WCE actually are...kinda ridiculous

Eagles should go back to back this year, there's still so much improvement in their list.

On our height, i'm rapt that we're so tall. Plus next year's draft we can pillage some midfielders and runners which are normally "easier" to draft for as less uncertainty (than project players like Hampson, Raso).

But we'll also need to think about a big key full forward next year too - Fev won't be around forever and it could take a few years for a drafted FF to reach senior level ability.

Who is the kid that impressed everybody in the TAC Grand Final in 2006? Plays for Calder? 16 year old kid from Greenvale. Adam somebody???

Jake Edwards could fill Fev's spot later on :thumbsu:

Adam Maaric isn't really a full foward as he is currently only around 182cm. He is more of a foward pocket or half foward although he may play more in the midfield this year. He is on my shortlist for players I might like to get with our first round selection this year. He could be a didak type and currently we don't have anyone like that. Adam has a terrific goal sense and can snap goals from everywhere (kicked 30 goals 5 behinds this season)
