AFLW 2024 - Round 9 - Indigenous Round - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
What? Or he simply doesn't want to be out in the public eye infront of 100,000 fans and millions on tv. I don't think any would think anything of him decliningHird's actually in an invidious position here (of his own doing). As a sequence, he's next in line to present the norm smith. We can all agree that this is not his fault.
The thing is if he declines the offer it will be seen as an admission of guilt, something he's steadfastly refused to entertain during this ridiculously lengthy saga.
It is lose lose for jimmy either way
I doubt if he's learned from it considering he doesn't think he's done anything wrong , delusional. .That was a long time ago now. I'm sure Hird has learned from his mistakes and has grown as a human being. It would be so very brave of him to accept this offer and put himself back into the public on such a big stage, and only troglodytes with black hearts would stoop so low as to boo him for it. Could also send an empowering message for those suffering from mental health issues that recovery is possible.
It would be an honour for any player to receive an award from one of the AFL's greatest ever players.
)Who really wants to see that?
Hird was a competitive animal as a player but is also a really good person off the field. imo he had no intentions to inject players with banned substances to get an advantage he like the rest of the club were blinded by Danks dirty dealings imo.
It's genuinely scary how Essendon fans see Hird as some kind of higher being.
He put young men's health in danger. This goes beyond football.
Hird is a disgrace, as are Essendon. Subjecting their list to experimental PEDs is disgusting and unforgivable, Hird was banned by the AFL itself for his actions and omissions, for him to award the second most prestigious award in the game on grand final day is a travesty.
And fwiw the mental health argument can only excuse so much. Too many people on the lower rungs of society and in Australias prisons cope with serious mental illness on a day-to-day basis - the option to plead mental illness as an excuse for missing work or in court rarely successful for such people. Hird can play that card and get applauded and a free pass for 'bravery', it is disgraceful and he is the architect of his own misfortune and should face the consequences like everyone else
"And now to present the Norm Smith medal, former Norm Smith medalist, AFL Hall of Famer, Brownlow winner and former Essendon premiership captain, James Hird!"
"BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
Who really wants to see that? Not me. Not the AFL. Surely not Essendon fans. Nobody wins and it just delays the organic 'forgetting' that this game is so good at (i.e Matthews, Carey). A moment like that could set back the opportunity for genuine reintegration into the game a decade or more. With those optics, it'd be like inviting Meatloaf back to do the half time entertainment. A very hard sell.
The posting on this thread is ******* disgusting. Here is a guy who has genuinely ****** up, his whole reputation is destroyed and he is now given the opportunity to put it behind him and hopefully end a nasty chapter on a positive note.
You can't believe the dickheads laying the boots in.
You people are ******* sick.

The afl are a bunch of deadshits. There is only one way this is going to go and it won't be pretty.Booing a man who's suffered serious mental health problems would be a terrible thing for the game.
Anyone promoting the booing of Hird is engaging in mentalism and should be ashamed.
**** you're delusional if you think that is even close to the crimes that Essendon committed.Sort of like injecting painkillers pre and during games of which every club would be guilty of
James is a brave man. If he accepts this offer he will be doing so with the knowledge that a lot of football supporters are drunken, lowlife buffoons who would boo a man who's been through so much pain and hardship. He will still get up on that stage and fulfill his duties regardless of the haters.
If he's boo'd it will be more of a reflection on those in attendance than Hird himself. To forgive is divine.
I think you're naive if you believe what you wrote.lol I highly doubt 80,000 people will boo Hird on GF day people would be too happy and drunk to care.
