Saw them flogging the Richmond story and got me thinking about a NMFC equivalent. Is there one? I remember reading about something called 'The North Story', think it was written by a priest. Is that it as far as an all encompassing history book goes? Thanks.

I've got a copy of "the North Story". It's pretty decent and gives a good overview up until 1996. I'm pretty sure it was written to celebrate the centenary premiership.

The North Story by Father Gerard Dowling

They are as rare as hens teeth as far as I know. The club auctioned a few limited editions around a year ago, but they were very big coin:

Interesting. I guess it's the sigs that are driving the price up as they were plentiful at the time. I went to functions in the late 90's where they were giving them away.

The original '60's version would be worth a mint if anyone has one.

There was talk a few years back that this was being updated again, but I haven't seen nor heard much for a while. I do reacll word that Father Dowling wasn't well. Maybe this has stalled progress. Hopefull someon can grab the baton and up date it. There is a bit to tell since '96. Maybe another flag would be a good time to bring it out again.

The first version of he North story was written in the 60's to commerate the 100th anniversay of the club I think. They did an updated version in 96 and then another one in 97 with the Premiership highlights.

As for other historical books, there was one written for the 75th anniversary of the club in the 1930s but I've forgotten its name now. As far as I'm aware, that's it for historical books on our club's history.

I have copies of both "The North Story" editions--1974 and 1997. The really valuable one would be the one released in 1939--The History of the Hotham and North Melbourne Football Club. It sold for one shilling (10c) then. Should be worth a lot more now.

Had no idea they are going for such a price now. I have a '97 edition with a lot of autographs on the inside cover, include Carey, Stevens, Grieg, Dench, Scholl, Crocker, Pagan etc..

Does anyone know the whereabouts of one of these?

Yeh get 'The Coach' by Powers and with great timing focuses upon the 1977 season.

The best footy book ever IMO.

ebay occasionally has copies of the original print which I bought a few years back for $10. I think there was also a reprint.

I am hoping that one day I will cross paths with Barass and he can sign my copy.

Just went and got my copy of The North Story out of the cupboard. Printed in 73 and chronicles up to season 1971. What was a pleasant surprise though is that I found the following when opening the front cover.

NMFC - Year Book 1965 which is the year we played out of Coburg.
