How long till your team play its next grand final?

Just bored and thought i would find out how far people think their team is away from playing their next GF....I reckon WCE are about 4-5yrs away from their next GF appearance.

If you had asked yourself this same question in 2003 you probably would have said the same thing.

Similarly if you had asked Hawthorn supporters this question in 06 they would also have said 4-5 years.

If the club has a good system in place and everything is nicely balanced it doesn't take 4-5 years to get from bottom 4 to top 4 and possible GF appearances.

Realistically

Geelong - this year
Saints, Dogs, Hawks 1 - 4 years
Carlton, Port Adelaide, Collingwood 2-5 years
Adelaide, Brisbane 3-7 years
West Coast, North Melbourne, Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast 5+ years
Fremantle, Richmond, Essendon too far off in the distance to tell

And yes Richmond and Essendon are both too far off as both have rebuilt list poorly with poor skilled players and bad decision makers meaning they will have to rebuild again while new teams are coming in

LOL!

I like the way the name of the thread automatically excludes Freo supporters from commenting.:D

For Brisbane however. We have a good young midfield thats is being built, our defense is also full of good young players. I think the key factor for us will be Lachy Henderson's development and his ability to take over from Bradshaw on that sad sad day when he says goodbye to the game.

I would say our next oppurtunity would be around 2013-2014 when Geelong and Hawthorn are getting past it.

Dont see Carlton as a threat unless they wanna push for one GF then get massively fined for busting the salary cap again and be stuck in another 10 year rebuilding phase with no draft picks for a good chunk of it.

Within five years.

Things change pretty quickly though. Collingwood finished last in 1999, but played in consecutive grand finals in 2002-03. Hawthorn were terrible in 2004, yet won the flag in 2008.

Since 2003 there's never been a year when I don't expect the Swans to make the finals - and they haven't disappointed me.

How far they'll progress in the finals depends on the usual factors - injuries, etc.

This year and next are no exceptions. I think there are teams that have better players than us. But I've seen what a solid team effort can achieve. And I've never tipped against the Swannies and that's worked out pretty well, too. Perhaps the first time I've thought of in it the past six years was at the beginning of this season - particularly when we were playing the Hawks and the high-flying Blues. I'm glad I've stuck to first principles and continued to tip my team.

Finals this year? Yes, I expect that. Grand Final - some players will have to step up but that's what a long season is all about. In fact, I'm more convinced that we'll play finals in 2009 than I am that we'll beat a rebounding Freo at home this weekend.
