I thought we would at least of had a crack last night and hopefully snatch a quarter, that would of made my night....

I always have confidence in my players winning or losing but last night... That hurts...We are so shit!

Never thought we were that bad, you might call me naive.. I dunno what to call it... Just sad knowing the next few years draft picks are taken and we seem to be down here for the long ride.

That could be 5 years!??? not good? Could MFC survive that???

I think it's more Naive to think we'll be at the bottom for that long. Seems like a knee-jerk reaction to getting thumped by what might be the best team ever. People would've laughed if you'd said this last week

Look at Richmond last year, they were absolutely putrid. This year players like delidio have taken the next step, injured players like Brown are at their best, tambling has come along. They're a reasonable finals chance and should be a solid top 8 team next year.

I see no reason why we can't win 7-10 games next year with full seasons from Brock, Rivers and Beamer, improvement from Bate, Dunn, Garland, Jones among others.

What we've shown this year, I'll be disappointed if we're bottom 4 next year and i dont think that's unreasonable

I don't like to blame injuries as Geelong still would have thumped us anyway, but missing our two best backmen (rivers and garland) our best midfeilder (mclean) many good forwards (robbo, miller, davey) and good players (petterd, moloney and im probably forggeting a few others) didn't help.

We are alot better then how we played last night.

I hope our younger players learn from it and watch how an awesome side like Geelong goes about playing their football.

Lets look at it rationally.

We were seriously on a hiding for nothing. We were up against the best midfield, probably the best backline going around playing against a targetless forwardline. The defence, made up of youngsters really had the shit pumped on them all night.

Why did we sign up Juice for 2 years and axe him from the team?

Seriously, we don't need a ruckman with our first pick, we need forwards because we have nothing worth kicking too at the moment.

hopefully we should start seeing some big improvements by 2010 when the likes of jones, bate, dunn, bartram, mclean and others around their age should be hitting their prime. if not we could be in a lot of trouble

I admire your optimism but which teams do you think we will climb above and why?. In my opinion there are too many structural problems in the team for us to make much improvement next year. The defence will be good wiith Garland, Martin, Warnock, Frawley etc but our midfield and forward line still have too many deficiencies. The team didn't win many games with the players you mentioned playing. With the club not trading their draft picks wisely, next year will be another struggle.

Big difference between the sides was the physical size of Geelong compared to us. Even guys like Carroll and Whelan who have been around for a few years (hence a few preseasons in the gym) looked tiny compared guys like Mooney and Bartel. Surely our fitness staff has to go at the end of the year, they've done nothing to improve the size of our guys, if not made some of them smaller.

Maybe it was a little optimistic to think we'll get that high next year, but the point i was trying to make is that i think we've got a lot of the players we need to be a good team, they just need some more experience or time in the gym or more time working on Baileys gameplan.

The main point i was trying to make is that OP sounds like he's saying we'll need to be at the bottom drafting for 5 years before we can do anything, but i disagree. Next year will undoubtably be hard again, but we'll improve as we have during this year, but i dont think it'll take us 5 years to get off the bottom.

Next year we can still get picks 1&2 as someone else said, the new team can only sign GC and NT players next year, meaning we can pick up john butcher and tom scully.

However next year even if we don't win more than 4 games I can realistically see us at least passing port who will have no forwardline and no ruck division next year.
I can also (optimistically) see us passing someone like a freo or a WC.

We aren't that bad. We had a poor night against an awesome team. That's all. It happens to great sides. We aren't that far away. Couple of years and we will be much improved. Bank on it. :thumbsu:

Our young players were terrible and the skills of the whole side was deplorable. Valenti showed that he could get the ball but couldn't hit a target. We didn't do the basics - didn't guard the mark just let Geelong run off and far too many kicks off one step.

We need to recruit some older players or the 5 year or was it 8 year youth plan which Stynnes spoke of wiil be the death of the club.

We will end up as the Tassie Demons- a thought to bad to contemplate.

Never! The only thing saving MFC is it's name, simple as that.

You're a barrel of laughs :p

I agree that we lacked against Geelong, but you have to expect that given where we are in comparison to their current position. Remember, football is cyclical, it was not so long ago Carlton and Hawthorn were horrific teams, now it is Melbourne's turn. Soon enough, with some quality draft picks and the development of our youth, we will be in the top half and pushing towards our next premiership.

To answer the original question, I think next year will be an improvement, but we will still struggle. Following that, we will be pushing for finals again, and the latest Melbourne dynasty will be born. :thumbsu:

Moloney and Mclean will strengthen the midfield next year. Hopefully we pick Watts and get Robertson fit, add in a inform Miller and the forward line is lookin ok.

Injuries have hurt this year, if we can stay injury free next we will win a few games and improve. I couldn't see us making finals for another 2 years but we will improve.

And one question do we still have that Bowbjan Bobacheck (worst attempt at spelling his name ever) still as our fitness guy. Becuase if we do sack him he has been terrible since we got him at the end of 2006. He was at Hawthorn before us and was sacked becasue fo some many injuries.
