How many from your team can walk in to any best 23

Even Geelong - with the weakest engine room in the AFL bar perhaps West Coast - isn't playing him in the inside mid role this year. His hamstrings just won't take 65% game time on the inside.
A strong side could still use him as a deep forward with stints on ball, or as a perma-sub.
He still is in any best 23 even if its only on limited midfield minutes

Just think about who clubs name as the sub usually, its some fringe flanker/mid/wing who is generally aged between 18 and 22ish and is inexperienced.

They're managing his season with a view to (hopefully) finals IMO. I expect his midfield minutes will end up similar to 2024, where in the tail end of the year he still did very well against prime aged mids.

Perhaps, but it is made possible by Geelong's uniquely long expectations of game time played by Blicavs, Jack Henry et al. Most sides tend to spread their minutes more evenly; we tend to cycle our inside midfields extremely aggressively.

Sure, but if you're the sub, you're not a "walk in".
To be honest we are all completely guessing unless we could confidently complete this exercise for every single side in the comp. Because you need to understand the bottom third of each sides best 23 as much as your own players.

You can still be a walk in as an 18th pick if the choice between those two players is obvious. You don't need to be first picked. In a lot of cases these "less obvious" players would simply increase the standard of each sides bottom 6 to 8 players by a lot. Which again, doesn't mean their inclusion to that side would be borderline.

It's BigFooty. Anything more than uneducated guesswork is UnAustralian.

No they can’t, mate.

All of them could walk into a number of teams.

Most of them could probably scrape into most teams.

All of them couldn’t make it into all teams.
Define what you mean?? I am not saying all 12 would push out 12 from a side, but each individually would at bare minimum be on the bench or starting 18.

I am happy to do an exercise with you. Name for me the bottom 4 b23 from each team and who would be in ahead of the names I mentioned

Honestly I don’t watch enough of other teams microscopically to say the whys and wherefors of each team closely enough to say definitively that each player from each of the other 17 teams’ best 22 is going to have ‘this or that’ in his favour.

But as good as Lawson Humphries already is, and will be, he’s not pushing a first choice Lions player out yet. They’d trade for him I’m sure and want him in their squad and he’d make it soon enough but I don’t know that he’d just walk in.

Ollie Dempsey probably isn’t either.

If JUH was fit and playing (which may never happen again who knows) I can’t see a circumstance in which the Dogs would bother playing Ollie Henry. They have Sam Darcy, Naughton, JUH, and Cody Weightman who kicks basically as many per game as Ollie, and Bontempelli who contributes well over a goal a game. Given how little else Henry offers, I don’t know that he would get in there. The way Adelaide are scoring at the moment he might struggle there too.

Blicavs is old and it’s only his versatility now which makes him appealing but he would be fringe at a few clubs who are tall-heavy. Hes not a good forward, he’s still a handy defender but not what he was 5-6 years ago.

That’s a few.

This thread is a bit weird, most of the time people overestimate how good their players are, but just about every single poster who isn't from a bottom 5 club is underestimating the number of players who would be best 23 across the comp.

this true even after you factor the positional restraints on the question

the number of players who would be best 23 across the comp
Yeah, but it's when you add the positional constraints for every single side that it gets interesting.

Better than Curnow and McKay, Tex and Thilthorpe, Waterman and Allen, JUH/Darcy/Naughton? Better than GWS and Geelong for small forwards? Better than Brisbane for small defenders and mids?

And it has to be clearly better, for the phrase "walk in".

Even taking position and the "walk-in" factors, people are underestimating the numbers.

I'll take Soligo, Rachele is borderline for this list.

Rachele gets in comfortably on 2025 form

Adelaide players who would make any other team:

Dawson
Rankine
Rachele
Soligo
Thilthorpe
Fogarty
Worrell
Michalany
Hinge

others who would be close are Murray, Neale-Bullen and Keays

I'll give you:
Dawson
Rankine
Thilthorpe
Michaelanny
Fogarty

Remember it's walk up, not maybe through I biased lens.
And I'm a Crow fan, reckon you have a great team.

And what does walk up actually mean in real terms?

Best 18? 15? 10? Soligo and Rachele would easily walk into any team right now.

2025 IS TWO GAMES OLD.

and?

This is where it can be difficult. He would get in most but would he get in all. As good as he has become not sure if he would get into Hawthorn's especially when you are already adding Stewart
He'd be on my list for this thread.
Fan club ticket no.1.

Genuinely one of the most underrated players in the competition.

Even restricting to only players in the same end of the ground and not looking at the Interchange players I'd swap ZG for Jiath in a heartbeat.
