Would Zach Guthrie get a game at every club or is he only rated internally?
The truth is that once you get past the top handful from any team there is a paper thin difference between most players in most positions.

You put any AFL level player in the right system with a good coach and they will do well. Equally you put them in an average system with poor coaching and they will become whipping boys soon enough.

Picked players who can play multiple positions to make different teams.

Dawson - can play midfield, defence or forward & all class
Rankine - no side would say no to his x-factor
Thilthorpe - can play as a key forward &/or ruckman
Fogarty - would comfortably be in best 2 tall forwards for most sides & if not, can play as a 3rd tall.
Michaelanny - flexibility to play on smalls or mediums forwards, shut-down or more attacking.
Worrell - either 3rd tall or key backman.
Soligo - can play as an inside or outside midfielder.

Why do Brisbane supporters underrate Bailey?
capable of the fantastic but quite often thinks hes exempt from doing the basics.

i rate him highly and think his ceiling could be dylan moore but i can see why other brisbane supporters would be frustrated with him. not uncommon that he refuses to chase, tackle or do the essential team defence things. he has improved on this from 2-3 years ago though.

Plenty of posters seem to be overrating their team’s players - or perhaps I don’t understand the question. I think the question is about which players could replace a player in a given position (or group of positions) in every team in the comp.

In my mind this means the players most likely to got the bill will be mid-fielders and small(ish) forwards as there are multiple of these roles in any given team.

So I think for Collingwood it would be N Daicos and De Goey. N Daicos because he is one of the top 4 midfielders in the comp and De Goey because, at his best, he can play the bull half forward flanker/high mid-fielder role better than anyone - but he does have to be at his best.

With little more consistency I think Bobby Hill could slot into any team’s (except Brisbane) group of small forwards and for those teams that use a structure that makes good use of a wing man then I think J Daicos would get a gig - but in some teams he would be wasted.

Apart from that I think there are a few Collingwood players that would get a start in the majority of AFL teams but not all of them because very few players, in any team, are the best player in that role across all teams. That’s why the All Australian team is broadly represented.

Surely Moore would make every team.

I think he would have to go very close. He is probably not quite as damaging by foot as Stewart and has not been able to go into the midfield (it’s never been tried and frankly I don’t want it to get to the stage where we have to) but I think last season finally people realised he is actually good and a really really capable alternative when Stewart goes further up the field.

Surely Moore would make every team.

Who would he replace at the Hawks?

Lions would be borderline as well. Payne better as a FB stopper so Moore either replacing Andrews or playing a 3rd tall role?

Far better player than Battle!

Can't be serious about comparing Payne. Imagine the Lions with Andrews & Moore!

2-3 years ago, almost certainly.

Off his last 18 months though, there would be a few clubs who wouldn't require him.

I don't think you can do an exercise like this based on reputation and prior accolades. It's why a lot of players we consider champions wouldn't be on the list.

Maybe. But then I look at Melbourne with Lever and May and I’m not sure he displaces either of those.

Agree on Payne and Andrews. Also think he struggles to displace Lever or May at Melbourne.

He was All Australian in 2023.

I'd absolutely take Battle on recent form.

Moore isn't the same player without a proper FB behind him. His best work is when he can read the play and peel off his man, the same as Andrews or Steven May.

At the Lions Moore would probably be the 3rd tall options. He'd take Lester's role. Andrews at CHB and Payne the FB stopper.

He reolaces Petty or McDonald at the Dees

Lever best as a 3rd tall defender.

May, Moore & Lever would be great combo... pity they have no forward line though.

Hence my comment. 2-3 years ago, almost certainly.

Off his last 18 months, does he play ahead of Taylor and Buckley for instance? I doubt it.
Plays ahead of Himmelberg.

Why do Brisbane supporters underrate Bailey?

Had a bad year last year, primarily due to injury and a position which doesn’t suit his absolute strengths. Can lack the defensive side of his game.

We also have too many good players and like to remain modest. I get PMs from posters saying ‘Elixuh, how can you be such a great poster and so modest? No one is more modest than you.’
