Re: Crowd?

did the MCC members turn up?

and if that's a pathetic attempt of trolling.. come see us when your team gets a crowd that big.

Chill son, not trolling, just asking the question.

Re: Crowd?

Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!

Hawthorn supporters have been banking on this game to knock off ANZAC Day's crowd figure all year as part of their argument that they are a big club, and Collingwood and Essendon shouldn't get a lock on the day.

This game has been built up all year and you still couldn't get a higher crowd than ANZAC Day!!!

Hawthorn = irrelevant

Re: Crowd?

Well I find it funny that the NRL had 2 games on tonight and got nowhere near that figure.

I thought the crowd for both teams was fantastic, 86,000 for a game in the middle of winter, not featuring any of the supposed 'Big 4' which actually sold out, I would have thought would have been solid?

Re: Crowd?

same as usual. mostly people. some related.

Made me laugh. But I'm amused quite easily.

Back to the topic - great to see a crowd of 80k+ where it aint a GF and it aint involving Collingwood.

Someone on MMM (might have been Brayshaw, or Taylor, or perhaps it was Lyon) said that any MCC tickets not claimed/bought by MCC members 2 days before the game should go on sale to the general public/be made available to members of the clubs (additional cost debatable). Reckon thats a decent suggestion.

Mind you being a Melbourne Lions supporter I doubt I'll be faced with that dilemna.

Re: Crowd?

What was the crowd figure for the 2 NRL games?

Wouldn't know the exact number, but while flicking through the games, suncorp stadium looked nowhere near full(nothing else to do here on a friday night thought more would go to the footy) and the game in sydney looked dead as shit but nth qld were playing. Maybe 25-30thousand including both games.

Probably take 5 nrl games to get 86000. I don't mind my league but the people running the code are f**kin shithouse at it.

Re: Crowd?

FWIW, it was the 2nd largest Hawthorn home and away crowd ever (behind 92,937 against Collingwood in 1981) and the 2nd largest Geelong home and away crowd ever (just behind 87,653 against Essendon in 1989)

The largest crowd ever not involving Essendon or Collingwoo in any capacity, the 8th largest non Public Holiday home and away crowd ever

Re: Crowd?

Agree with the MMM team something needs to be done about the members.

Both tonight and ANZAC day were sell outs, yet big gaps were empty in the members, which means people who want to watch the game miss out.

Re: Crowd?

Blame MCC and AFL members.

General Admission Sold out weeks ago

Maybe they should make some system so they know who's going and who's not which will allow more tickets to be sold to the average joe.

What are your thoughts?

Just got back from the game

The crowd was probably 60/40 Hawks favor

Hard to tell regarding neutrals, but the MCC was the only stand in the stadium not packed

Maybe 10,000 neutrals?

Nah most support will be for Geelong or Hawthorn. The GF and ANZAC day are the only games which attract a large amount of neutral supporters but thats because those games are the biggest on the calendar and all the corporates buy all the seats

IMO atmosphere will be much better than the GF.

wha??? i thought ANZAC day had nearly 100% pies and dons support :confused:

Alot of neutrals roll up to ANZAC Day, but like tonight the vast majority of the crowd support either side playing.

ANZAC Day and tonights crowd will have a better atmosphere then most of the finals, just because the vast majority of supporters at the ground barracked for either side

Both Essendon and Collingwood level on 14 as above...

By the way, there has got to be a better solution to the vast number of MCC seats vacant in the top deck again tonight.

Essendon and Collingwood are obviously streets above the competition, though it does help when you play on the biggest stage every year.

The Hawks and Cats should try to replicate something similar, the atmosphere tonight was incredible
