Whats the best sickie excuse you've ever heard?
Best I used was that I wanted to head down to the WACA to watch Punter one last time.
Boss said that was fine.

two a year is what I answered two years ago
remains true
in my experience... having a day off does not give you much of a holiday - you just end up needing to catch up (and then some) the next day
Well, it might be two years since he posted this but we've finally solved the mystery of why Drakes girlfriend won't miss work. The people I don't get are the ones that hate their job but never take time off. Take my girlfriend for instance - she has been in her job for about 4 years now and in that time she has taken one sick day, and in the past 24 months has taken no time off at all. Kudos to her for being so punctual, but all she does is complain about her job and bosses. I ask her all the time why she doesn't take a day off and each time she says something like nah I can't got an important meeting today or nah I can't got an 8.30 appt with a client etc etc - basically no matter how much she whinges about her job, she will not take a day off because she is too busy. Even when she is sick she will still go into work, yet will complain about her job every time I see her - and then get defensive when I tell her she needs to take time off. I can't win.
My mother died, so I needed the friday off for her funeral. In reality, the Bombers were playing a practice match at Subi that day. I was so nervous at the game, trying to avoid the TV cameras when play was near me.
2 consecutive days this year when I genuinely could not get out of bed.

You used the dead mother excuse for a single day off.
Amatuer.
Black Thunder said:i get shitted with this mentality too. and this "important" bullshit that people trot out. it's not ******* important. it doesn't mean anything really. when you're lying on your death bed are you gonna remember all those important meetings? no, you're gonna remember the great times with family and friends, festivals, music, sporting events etc,. and people seem to have lost sight of this fact.
We've got the same thing going on. She was given some stern words from HR and management a couple of weeks ago and looked a little remorseful afterwards, but it remains to be seen if she will change her ways.Probably about 3 or 4.
This one bish at my work takes 1 every 2 weeks or so. It is a ******* joke. They need to fire her fat lazy arse.

We have another chick who takes a couple of weeks of annual leave as she is entitled to, but then is "sick" the day before too. This has happened to many times to be a coincidence.
Then there are several others who have basically said they use their sick leave over the course of the year because it's "there to be used" FFS.
Nothing gets my goat like my staff calling in sick when not legitimate. I had one person exhaust their balance (17 days per year too) by taking a day off at the slightest hint of a sniffle. Sure enough later in the year this staff member legitimately has an illness but alas had no leave available. I just about gleefully put through her leave without pay for a couple of weeks. She was in tears at not having any income for a fortnight, but you make your bed you need to lie in it. And make no mistake, your boss notices trends with dodgy personal leave.
I've been in my role for about 7 years and have probably taken 5 days off sick in that time. I'd love to see employers incentivise not taking personal leave - and stop the dodgy days off when someone cant be buggered coming into work on any particular day
That's all I needed for the footy.
Why do people take others taking sick leave as a personal affront?
Not everyone is on the same level when it comes to job commitment.
As for me personally, I'll take to occasional "mental health day" in order to maintain my sanity but try to make it on a day i know will be quiet(er). If that day takes a while to eventuate, I'll wait.
If I'm legitimately sick, I'm staying home without an ounce of guilt.
I despise people who come in sick and then brag that they haven't taken a day off in x amount of time.
