guys what is going on with the AFL this year?
There are about 6 sides that are terrible.

Look at the ladder we have a side 7-0 and another 6-1.
There's 8pts difference between 6th and 7th, and there are 5 teams with 8pts or less.

The AFL ladder is starting to look like a metro comp with a couple of good sides and the rest of the comp crap.

This is horrible and will make for a lot of dull and woeful games this year.

What's happening?

True but things can change very quickly now with the AFL. Melbourne and Collingwood are good examples of that. It's a competition where if you are in the bottom four you can quickly get back up there, instead of teams sitting on the bottom for decades in the past.

I think its fantastic.

2 weeks ago Richmond were written off and and bagged as spooners.

2 weeks later we are outside the 8 on % (albeit plenty) and Collingwood are now being talked about in spoons.

yet in another two weeks time Collingwood or Haw may be just outside the eight, and Tigers down again.

Its shaping up as a great season, and sure will be tight for possie 7 and 8 inside the eight come the end of August.

I reckon there are about 10 sides that are very ordinary, 2 that are very good, 2 that are good and 2 uncertain.

This is one of the weakest AFL comps for a while.

I dont see at is all that uneven.

Look at the bottom three clubs:

West Coast
Hawthorn
Collingwood

We were in the 8 last year, and although struggling without Gardiner, i'm still backing us to make the 8 this year.

Hawthorn were tipped to be a top 4 team this year (don't know why??), but definetaly can't be written off (i guess....)

Collingwood have been grand finalists the last 2 years running. People are writing them off, but geez, don't be shocked if they end up in the finals again. A loss to St Kilda this week would really make it a tough ask though.

I reckon it's pretty even. It was easier to pick the 8 before the season started than it is right now. I think it'll settle down by the break but there arestill lots of very unpredictable games to go.

Is it worth mentioning that since there have been only seven rounds to date, that some sides without many wins to this point may have played against many more top-ranked sides than others ?

Wait until round 15, when all teams have played each other once, and then decide how uneven or otherwise the season is.

Weagles still manage to beat the triple premier without Gardiner!

Aye, the crow speaks the truth.

I see it the other way, it is one of the strongest AFL comps theres ever been. If a side like Collingwood can be on the bottom of the ladder after coming 2nd last year due to a couple of injuries, that tells you every other club is improving.

Tell me the clubs you are talking about being very good, good and uncertain. Brisbane StKilda, Melbourne Port Adelaide, Geelong Fremantle? What about Essendon? Didnt the Kangaroos just thrash Port by 92 points?

Well from a form point of view, it's been an up and down year for most sides, but as far as the ladder goes, games-wise there is only a couple of games difference between the bottom sides and those just outside the 8! And as we've seen, form can come and go really fast at the moment so I don't think it's that uneven! It's better than having one team badly lagging behind the rest!
