He sounds too much like Ian Perrie for my liking.

People have heard concerns about his kicking and then cranked up the hysteria and turned him into the worst kick in history.
Kicking you often can fix kicking for goal though is often much harder. It is more a mental thing usually and not many poor kicks for goal as a junior suddenly become good kicks when they hit the high pressure AFL environment. The hysteria peaked after his game for Maffra on the weekend.
From what i've heard, took around 15 marks, but kicked 1 goal 7 behinds and one out on the full.
I am sure all the teams have been studying him very closely, and if the kicking is a relatively easy fix, he'll still go early.
Being a tiger supporter though, I would rather we go the safe option. We can't afford another draft fail.
His kicking was always suspect though so it should not have surprised that many professionals. It might be some of the attitude whispers that hurt him as much.People have heard concerns about his kicking and then cranked up the hysteria and turned him into the worst kick in history.
He needs to work on it, but his kicking isn't anywhere near the concern some internet heroes are making it out to be around these parts.
i would take him at 3.
Why? Because he has the most upside of anybody in the draft. A mobile 197cm forward with sticky hands is an asset that cannot be underestimated. With the right coaching his kicking will improve.
And with that name he will either butcher other sides or his disposal!
Sometimes you have to take risks to get somewhere.....
This is the first I have heard of dislike towards him.Hello everyone!
I have been reading a few of the draft threads lately and one thing that most fans have in common is severe hatred for John Butcher.
Thoughts?
I'd love him at pick 7.
Some questions over his disposal, but with goal kicking it comes down to technique, which can be fixed.
Honestly, Butcher+crumber+specialist small defender would complete our team in years to come.
Sounds like Buddy. always better to kick 7.8 than 7.1 i say.
Out of a team total of something like 9.27, so he wasn't Paddy Malone. I think conditions weren't great. The hysteria peaked after his game for Maffra on the weekend.

No such thing as a safe option. We need a key forward, the sooner the better.Being a tiger supporter though, I would rather we go the safe option. We can't afford another draft fail.
You just contradicted yourself. Set-shot technique should be much easier to correct than kicking on the run, and/or under physical pressure.Kicking you often can fix kicking for goal though is often much harder. That being said I do note that Brisbane as a team this year went from being on of the worst goal kicking teams last year to one of the best this year so things can change.
Maybe they didn't practice enough. Stewart Loewe worked hard at it and improved a hell of a lot, as did Tredrea. Anyway, two of the three you mentioned are dual premiership forwards, as was Stephen Kernahan, another bloke with goalkicking yips. Sumich kicked 100 goals in a season for crying out loud, and he couldn't even mark above his head (like Buddy). All players have their strengths and weaknesses. I hope we get Butcher. Dustin Martin looks good but no different to a top-10 midfielder any other year, and I'm pretty confident the Tigers will have a top-10 pick again next year.Would have to disagree.
Leigh Matthews has often said that if you are a poor kick at 17, you'll be a poor kick at 27.
Sumich, Richardson, Mooney et al never improved their goal kicking from the day they started.

Most of the Melbourne and Richmond supporters do not want a bar of him. On the North board the other night someone suggested the possibility of us drafting Butcher with pick 5 and 2 posters said they would shoot themselves in the head if that happened.
This is strange to me because I would say that based on his junior career Butcher has been at least as good as any other key forwards drafted in recent history.
Where do u think he will go? Do you want him?
Thoughts?

Nick or Jack?Riewoldt>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Butcher
And that's just Malcolm Blight. It's pretty much right, which proves that set-shot goal-kicking is all in the head. You hear numerous times every week that such and such should just go back and kick like it was a field kick on the run
Buddy had a stinker of a carnival in 04.Butcher was very ordinary this year and I can't think of a recent first KP taken who has performed worse than him.
