Vic How would you rate Daniel Andrews' performance as Victorian Premier?

Are you over ratings the Libs? They had no talent, still havent, I checked, there is only an empty old school blazer.

I agree Mr K, the Vic Libs have little to offer. Vic Labor is also extremely thin on talent. Andrews is the difference but it's just about winning the PR battle not competency in government. His ministers are muppets.

What the Victorian Liberals should’ve done in regards to the 2018 state election, instead of putting all its energies on the crime issue, they should’ve focused more on the economy and industrial relations. They should’ve also taken a leaf out of the late US President Ronald Reagan’s playbook and asked the Victorian voters this question-‘Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago when Labor came to power?’

Well, the Libs couldn't really attack Labor on the Victorian economy because Labor have done a good job with it. And they can't ask the average Victorian voter whether they're better off now than when the Libs left office because the answer is yes. The only "weakness" the Libs could exploit was law and order, and that fell flat because it was so transparently racist dog whistling and cynical opportunism.

Try telling that to the Herald Sun, Sky News, and 3AW who fell over themselves to support the Victorian Coalition only to have egg on their faces on election night. Would’ve loved to be at their offices when Opposition Leader Matthew Guy conceded defeat.

Anyone who thought the Libs had a chance are delusional IMHO, Dan was doing things .....

Yes, it should have gone some way to fixing that problem but unfortunately their capacity is only to advise and not to dictate.

A better model would be to increase the scope of the body to have the powers to undertake projects according to their determination of priority and governments to decide only how much money they'll contribute to ticking things off the list.

Perhaps head hunt some expertise from NSW:

Most melburnians feel relatively safe. Putting giant bilboards in leafy suburbs telling people how unsafe they are? Did that have something to do with the substantial swing against Guy in the most expensive suburbs in melbourne?

Add in the tragic NZ massacre and Morrison understandibly concluded the dog whistling was 'off' hopefully it says that way.

although it seems to be all about the big nasty chinese government - ironically by figures like palmer who does a shitload of business with them

agreed, it was a stupid strategy that at most changed a few votes in the areas impacted by the Sudanese gangs but they are all safe labour seats so Dan Andrews didnt have to and still doesnt have to worry about the Sudanese crime wave and can focus on broader issues that will win key marginals.

Sydney is sandstone Melbourne is blue-stone
Sandstone is going to be a lot easier to get through

This despite the article saying the main problem is unstable alluvial layers in the main (much like tunneling melbourne)?

didn't they pump so much water into foundations for bulding the victorian arts centre once that they created a water shortage?

Probably the greatest troll ever. The 2020s will be forever known as the Andrews decade

Funny how a project which would enable the metropolis much more efficient is poo hood by moodies as bringing unbearable debt

I've got a problem with my grandkids carrying the burden ($s) of my living above my means, so I tread warily.

There seem to be a big noisy group who want a European city (ride a push bike to work) but the real world is the outer suburbs - Sunshine, Doncaster etc, are these centres far enough out in 30 years time?

All for better forward planning but we dont seem to do it very well in Aus.

outer metropolitan road reserve - so there is planning but the deal makers havent kept up

Connecting Airport, Monash Deakin Latrobe unis with activity centres doncaster box hill clayton sunshine is surely going to be a great basis for decentralising melbourne snoewhat. and lower activity centres cheltenham glen wavelry heidlleburg fawkner Broadmeadows werribee will surely get dragged along too

If you are based further out, say in pakenham and youd prefer to study at latrobe -its going to help you too

Extraordinary to think that 12 months ago, the Herald Sun was falling over themselves to back Matthew Guy's Victorian Liberals to the hilt in the upcoming election, yet a year later found no problems getting stuck into his successor, Michael O'Brien and his Liberal team.

It's already happening mate.

We had an entire federal election this year decided by old people wanting young people to continue funding their opulent, privileged lifestyles while continuing to **** the planet and leave them to pay for that too.

At least in the case of infrastructure those young people benefit from it.

Strange how liberals still seem to refer to this single issue and this single group as the reason the government won the poll. Hugely baffling why they don't extend themselves to consider the other reasons why the government was reinstated.

Hope there is more to planning than Unis, most people work 46 weeks.

I don't think anyone denies there were issues around Shorten or the campaign approach.

But the 3 of the biggest 4 policy issues ended up being "class warfare" issues around franking credits, negative gearing and coal.

supposedly innovation centres using unis as catalysts. anyway as activity centres, companies much more likely to get on board than somewhere like dandenong

and realistcally the centres like glen waverley. Should abandon any sentimentality and totally rebuild them as something much better,

i realise there neeeds to be a lot more planning than a train line. Out the front door I can see where the last suburban orbital used to be. Its a nice park and bike track now. Total failure built to line politicians pockets

All tunnelling expertise is usually recruited form abroad. perhaps we should get some of their planners too

There's plenty of Aussies that leave the Australian mines and head to these projects because the money is quite often better. Jumbo operators on $180k+ in the mines can earn more on tunnels in cities.
