with Toyota the major sponsor of the AFL? i doubt it, Toyota would arc up something massive and the AFL would poo poo it.

You wouldnt like it think so considering the Kanga's are allowed to have Mazda all over their front and back as their major sponsor.

Geelong are a different story given the longevity of the sponsorship with Ford but still an example.

It's possible.

further elaboration required :D

He was going on about how Ryan O'keefe wanted to come home and he was feeling homesick and he could understand how he felt.

I just mentioned that i find it diificult to have sympathy for some bloke earning 400 - 500K who will be back in melb in 3 years anyway feeling homesick when the ave dude probably earns 60k and has to put up with it.

Ox - man of the people - yeah right

I hear we have another option as back up if the AIG one doesnt make ink to paper so it's not do or die but it would be good to get it done since they've flew into town and all to do the deal.

Yeah.

I suspect 'plan b' involves less money, etc.

I wonder when they have to make the final call. It can't be too long.

Finals a must for Tigers: March

By Mic Cullen 12:53 PM Tue 21 October, 2008

RICHMOND president Gary March says the club has to make the finals in 2009 after finishing just outside the eight again this season.

The coach and the president were seen to be in conflict over the assessment of the season after missing the finals with another ninth-placed finish, with March rating it more poorly than Terry Wallace.

Wallace is heading into the final season of a five-year deal, and while March admitted that the ninth spot this year was better than some others had been, he said it was a must for the Tigers to play in September.

"Oh definitely, it is a different ninth. I think the previous times we'd finished ninth we'd probably dropped off in the second half of the season," he told SEN Radio.

"We'd had good starts to the season and our form had waned towards the end of the year and we'd limped towards ninth.

"This year we had a bit of a slow start – we had a tough draw early – but then we really got some momentum and were one of the best-performed sides in the second half of the year."

The Tigers defence was the cornerstone of their resurgence, with talls Will Thursfield, Luke McGuane and Kelvin Moore all having less than 50 games under their belts but progressing nicely.

"We've got a pretty young list now, and a really solid back six now, which is something we probably haven't had in any of those years leading in, so look, we've got a lot of confidence going into next year.

"But we've also got a lot of expectations, and I think all of us around the club are expecting us to push to the finals next year."

The Tigers are without a main sponsor, but March said that wasn't far off being resolved.

"We're very close to finalising our sponsorships at the moment – we've been working hard on that – and we're very confident that we'll certainly be going into next year with all of our sponsorship properties sold.

"We've locked down most of them. We've got a couple to go, but we're in final negotiations with a number of those.

"The club's had another profitable year, and we would expect to make a small profit in 2009, and who knows, if we can get back into the eight, then there's additional revenue streams that come from that."

Gary March seems very confident about the sponsors so i think there will be little trouble. Just sorting out the details

Yep I saw that.
AIG pulled out due to the global credit crisis or whatever it's called these days...

Given the difficulty of the global crisis, it would have been an amazing feat had the club pulled it off.

I guess it just opens the door for another sponsor to step up to the plate. We have a very high exposure brand so i don't see us having an issue obtaining another high profile sponsor with some good $$$$$ as well :thumbsu:

The prez probably decided that he needed to be involved:eek:

Its good to see that like the football managers job everything was organised by Garry March, with him eaing us out of the trenches the flag is as good as ours:thumbsdown:

And perhaps we dodged a future bullet.

From what I hear AIG are reneging on parts of their sponsorship deal with Man U.

Perhaps they couldn't give us the assurances, guarantees and security we were after? If that's the case, better to shop elsewhere.

Still, again, you have to wonder why this was presented in the media as a deal which was all but a foregone conclusion.

The word 'leak' comes to mind yet again...

If you have read through the media, Captain Kaos Gary March is directly quoted as saying the club is "very close" to signing off on this deal.

Idiot, which club even hints at a sponsorship deal unless the ink is well and truly dried on the contract.

I think the fact that he got within 24 hours of securing the biggest sponsorship in AFL history with a multi national insurance giant (albeit a rapidly shrinking one) for a club with such a shithouse past 25 years as us, speaks volumes for the man. I heard that our lousy Friday night draw was against us -kinda the straw that broke the back/

Unfortuntaley unless he actually turns wine into water he is still subjected to ridicule like this.
