Shit not a guess on the margin, had a look at the game good stand what did anyone else thick any surprises in the game? yeah match reveiw!!

Was at the game. Socialised more than watched every contest, however the dominant players for HL were:

Cooper (Henty?). This bloke was the rubber man. Tried take a hanger, winded himself, got up then got smashed then intercepted a footy and kicked a goal from 45-50 at a pretty reasonable angle. Got BOG I think and deserved it.

Shannon Gilson - solid as usual. Just knows how to find the footy. Dropped a couple of marks you'd expect him to take however conditions weren't great and he dived straight in to win the ball back. 2nd best for mine.

Banks from Howlong. I think he needs to be weighted down as he's lightning. Caused trouble all day.

Kade Garland dominated up forward til he injured himself (rolled ankle?). Definitely a great string for Jindera's bow come finals.

Ayden Brown. Solid down back. Was a general in defence for mine.

Honorable mentions to Storey, Castles and Donnan.

The TDFL did not look in the game at all. Should have been over by 3/4 time however it wasn't. Can't recall too many winners, however Carey and Mellier played pretty well I thought.

Coopers best was awesome on friday night, but his worst.. well, i didnt think i would see any of those shonky disposals in an interleague game. He had some SHOCKERS to say the least. But he did deserve the BOG for hume.

Castles did very little i think, he really stuggled to have an impact on the game.
I did note that the Hume league had massive amounts of rotations in the first half. I thought the coach was trying to break the afl record of 147 rotations in a game! the midfield was roated what felt like every couple of minutes.

Must have been the input of A/c Gilson and the runner.WTF?

Congrats to Marty Semmler who rolls out in game 200 for the Brookers this week. Hope the weather fines up or he may have to wait another week. Even at age 38 still takes some catching. :D Absolute champ of the Holbrook footy club and great servant. Well done :thumbsu:

Heard a rumour last night lockhart might be interested in joining farrer. has anyone down there heard anything similar. makes some sense as apparantly a lot of their players come from wagga.

howlong youngster Anthony E. Miles could be set for return to his HOME club Howlong spiders, for the remiander of the season, when not tied up with Murray Bushrangers committments in the TAC CUP. Miles should be a handy inclusion come finals time.

Does anyone have any info on the young Howlong player that alledgedly struck an umpire against Oaklands/Urana in the under 17's a few weeks ago. What actually happened? Has the story been blown out of proportion by Chinese whispers? What has the league done/will the league do about it if true? If true, didn't Howlong weed this culture out of their juniors a few years ago or was it just a passing phase?

And while we are at it:

Can the magpies hold on in the 6?

Will Osborne inevitably kick into gear toward September?

Are BB a serious threat as the begin to 'click' or will proven sides have too much class?

Can Henty sneak in or are they just the best of the rest?

Will anyone win a Hume league win a flag without spending $100k ever again?

Have Walla got a hope? What is the story with their current survival plans? Are merger offers still on the table (were they ever really on it?) and if they are, why are surrounding clubs not interested?

It will be interesting to see how the Magpies go over the next three weeks where they are set to meet Osborne, Culcairn and Jindera.

Osborne have a tough road home with games against many of the top six sides. I can't see them moving into finals contentions, although they do have a good record in previous years.

Don't think Henty will make finals but they certainly have to capacity to knock some of the higher rated teams off and could play a vital role in determining ladder positions. Their match against Magpies could be a make or break round for them.

Believe there was something in the Border a couple of weeks ago saying the matter was dealt with "in-house" by Howlong (whatever that means).

Magpies will hold thier spot in the 6 purely by default of the draw. Henty may sneak up on them and pinch the spot and who knows what Coly can do, would have to win a few more away games one would think.

Are BB the real deal ? Hard to get a read on them at the minute, we are 12 rounds in so to say they are still gelling is a load of sh it. Being flogged at home by Jindera may have been a wake up call, but I guess we'l know more when the other top sides start playing the Magpies after BB were 100 point winners against them last weekend.

Not sure about the $100k thrown up to win a flag. Everytime someone brings up money its all guesswork so all's id say to ALL clubs is keep working hard to make YOUR club stronger on and off the field.

Finally, got no idea about Walla, only to say that I hope the current committee has got more spine then the last one who played a massive part in putting them where they are at the moment.

You'd have to say, surely, that they aren't good enough? That's not saying anything against their year - it's been a fine one and their best in a while - but how far have they really come?

Osborne have a tough road home with games against many of the top six sides. I can't see them moving into finals contentions, although they do have a good record in previous years.

Yeah I guess it is just so difficult to imagine a finals series without them... I think 96 was the last time they missed out? Surely the have to be given a shot on that alone, there's still a lot of experience running around out there.

Don't think Henty will make finals but they certainly have to capacity to knock some of the higher rated teams off and could play a vital role in determining ladder positions. Their match against Magpies could be a make or break round for them.

Are magpies a better side or are they both pretty well matched? The margin was only a few points early on in the season if i remember correctly?

Believe there was something in the Border a couple of weeks ago saying the matter was dealt with "in-house" by Howlong (whatever that means).

Well yeah thats weak as piss if its true. If a kid hits an umpire you ban him for life. I stress that I don't know exactly what happened - but if a kid hits an umpire, nobody wants him running around on a footy ground. I hope for the league's sake they take action.

Big ask for Colly but they do seem to grow an extra leg or two at home... did they always have the old West-Coast like "fortress at home, could be anything away" mentality in the Coreen league or is it just something that has developed since coming over to the Hume with all the travel?

Should be interesting to see anyway. How much finals experience did they pick up with all of their recruits does anyone know? Nothing specific, just is it 'heaps' or 'not much'?

Hopefully clubs aren't using these 'rumors' to justify shelling out crippling pay packets every year then.... it's simply an unsustainable practice.

Finally, got no idea about Walla, only to say that I hope the current committee has got more spine then the last one who played a massive part in putting them where they are at the moment.

Hopefully they can stay on tbh. We've seen a couple of clubs in recent years come back from the absolute brink so hopefully there's a few blokes out there not willing to put it all in the too hard basket and fight on, but in the end, it will be disappointing if other clubs are willing to simply sit and watch them die instead of giving them a chance to continue on in some form at least for the betterment of footy.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that though.

I cant see the maggies being a real threat come finals time, they are just not there yet. But a couple of new players next year and look out!

I think we picked up a "little bit of finals experiance with the recruits"
We may be able to do a bit of damage come finals time, but i dont think we are quite there as yet. but thats not to say we wont make it. We still have a few players to come back and enough time to get some type of form before finals, so if all cylinders are firing we may surprise a few.

I dont think 100k is right in terms of what the clubs are spending. I just carnt see how the clubs can sustain that type of financial support for its players. I think the money that gets thrown around is a little over the top, but i think that the top clubs are spending 50-70k on players.

In terms of players who has been the best pick up the year, the biggest surprise, the biggest dud and the person who has not earnt their $$$ at this point of the season. ?????????????????

Best pick up: T.Storey (BB). Came with big expectations and is living up to them at present.

Biggest surprise: So far would have to be Howlong. Were comprehensively beaten by Culcairn and Jindera last season but have bridged the gap substantially - will they hold on or get swallow up ????

Biggest dud: P.Glanville (BB). Might be a bit harsh here as heard he's been injured a bit but from the few times Ive seen him he has BARELY influenced a game. Strange because he had has massive raps on him for a while now. Obviously a few wont agree.

Your right, the games that i have seen Glanville has done very little. He is a big man and has shown in the past that he can be an awesome player. i managed to watch BB play maggies last week, and he couldnt take a mark. the boys were delivering it into him chest height and he couldnt grab it, he should have of finshed with 6 or so goals. not sure if he is still injured or not, but i did notice he has been named CHF this week. Looks like they may be trying to get him up the ground and into the action???
On a side note: Guest from BB! didnt notice him for the first half and then all of a sudden he was unstoppable. kicked 5 or so goals in a qrt of footy. He was very impressive!

have to agree with you on T.Storey and Howlong also.

Recruit of the year is Kingy for BB Saints. mid 30's odd bloke picked for seniors this week. Fairly interesting selction but good luck to the old codger, hopefully he has a blinder!!!!!

I wouldnt say im being hard on the bloke. As i said he has shown he can be an awesome player, but struggled this year. I agree if he can get into some form in the 2nd half of the year, BB will be a much more dangerous side. :thumbsu:

Coly was almost always an extremely tough opponent in the Coreen league, and their home ground advantage had a lot to do with it. I think Wahgunyah, for example, couldn't win there for 20 years (and they made the grand final four years in a row in the late 90s during that time) and other teams would tell of similar streaks (I remember only one Daysdale win up there pre-merger, but we rarely won anywhere).
Not just the travel, but also the shape and size of the ground, and the fact their isolation means you hear very little about them - they can keep anything they want quiet and usually have a surprise or two to spring on teams.
They were also dangerous on the road because, doing it nine times a year meant it was never a big issue for them because they are used to it.
Regardless of what people may say about hating them (with the common gripe being the travel and the likelihood that a long day usually brought a loss with it) Coleambally was/is always respected for being able to do what they do against the tyranny of distance and they fact they have to develop almost all their own players because of that.

As for a couple of other issues mentioned:
Not that it should matter, but was it a Howlong club umpire or a Crows club umpire involved in the alleged incident? This would most likely make a big difference as to how far it would be taken, regardless of whether that is the right way to treat it or not. (There's no excuse either way).
No one likes to see a team (i.e. Walla) struggling to survive, and my club went through it for many years and had the one last hurrah with the Centenary Premiership before in the inevitable merger, which has been very successful despite what is happening this year.
Hopefully they can get things together and find a way to survive - or the League can get in with the MVAFA and finally make a restructure decision to help save them and others. Although I can't say I want them to get off the bottom this year for obvious reasons.
I would love to see Henty sneak into the six - I watched them play us last year and they impressed everyone with their endeavour and never-say-die attitude about four weeks after it was thought they were on their last legs and we were going well at that stage. Their improvement has been fantastic.

Some great comments about Coly Here It Is. A fine club, terrific people up there. Pretty much all home grown players who have played together since pre-school. Coly play with the attitude that they are never beaten. I feel a bit sorry for them in that they were placed in a competition in which they are never likely to win a flag, and the fact that some of their opposition resent them (the travel up there, the fact that they are in the Hume FL). Unfortunately not many other alternatives for them. I would love to see them accepted into the Picola League (North West) where they would be very competitive and their travel would probably be no worse.

Anyone know how Scotty Brunnemeyer went at tribunal last night>Was reported for Headbutting apparently and suspension will put him over the 16 weeks so will finish his footy.

Dealing with it in house will mean that nothing is going to happen, a kids belted an umpire and got away with it.
