How are Hume League Thirds numbers looking ? Heard a few clubs may not be able to field teams. Bit rich to impose conditions on Magpies when other clubs don't have to adhere to the same conditions. One of the club's struggling for Thirds numbers is a very vocal opponent of the Magpies. Heard that their may be some cash involved for Thirds players at Urana Rd.

Now we have ourselves that mighty freeway you wouldn't consider it a lengthy journey would you STP?You'd have to consider young Duff from Holbrook as a local wouldn't you? Liam Clayton to Yack?
Not to mention Semmler (grew up in the area) or even Moore (married to a local lass I'm led to believe).
Wouldn't it be fair to say Fairall and Walsh grew up in that area also?

AD Clayon wasn't a local and Duff was from Culcairn (which is bad enough) :D. To be fair on Walshy he had been away in the Upper Murray prior to joining Barny and wasn't getting his chance at Holbrook due to the sides they had 2000-2005 under Finna. Fairall now in Albury gave the club 18 years of footy (incl. juniors) for nix which is fair service I'd imagine, he spoke of leaving 3 years earlier but Finna persuaded him to stay each year and getting a leadership role as AC with Hollard and Hargraves probably clinched his decision to move. Perhaps having Finna looking after things so well out there papered over some of the cracks that were appearing (older list). Maybe the club should have thought about the locals they were losing before chasing 'success' stories like Mathews for the ridiculous fee he got.

No doubt though that it won't be long before the Brookers make their way back up the ladder, especially if Manny sticks around for a few years, he gets some of those ex-players back and some of their younger players come through (Thomas Stead, Andy Taylor etc.).:thumbsu:

You're the man in the know Big Al 11, you certainly have done your homework!

I'm hearing you mate. It'd be an easier task for Manny if he didn't have blokes poaching his locals though.

Would it be fair to say AD that 'poaching' players is a bit harsh??
Liam Clayton to Yack was a certainty given the fact that his best mate plays there. Walsh has not been at Holbrook for a few years now and Semmler and Moore as far as I know did not play last year.
I am not familiar with Duff, were will he play this year?

Are they struggling with numbers R.S? Would have thought the new coach might be able to drag a few with him.

Being a little bit tongue in cheek when I said "if they get a side", but yes, I believe they are struggling a bit numbers-wise. Didn't Hoota play at Corowa last year, so he's not gonna pull any from there, and he's been gone from Albury quite a while now.

You are probably right.....perhaps I should have re-directed the 'poaching' call to Yack then?? Uncle Ross did a bit there though didn't he? Not to mention the lengths he went to too 'poach' Mulholland from the Star.

The only place his likely to pull players from is out of the bar. But then again his banned from most establishments so there goes that line of thought:D

Duff is a small midfielder in the shape of Hargraves, fair bit faster (thats no feather in the cap :D ) but no where near the talent. Going to Dederang. Also heard young Justin Mohr from Holbrook going up there as well, another local 'poached' I suppose AD:rolleyes: .

i wonder if Yack had to pay the Star what Leroy owes them before Hodgy and Andy cleared him to Yack:rolleyes:

My mail from Holbrook is that their pretty happy - well from a committee point of view they see alot of improvement this year. Alledgedly got a number of clearances ready to go, be interesting to see what happens there......

I think it's be mentioned before but Culcairn are getting 8-10 to training out of locals and in towners. Don't know the league that well but that's not normal for March is it??

I think Culcairn are really struggling. I don't think Matt Klemke was the right man, doesn't have the pulling power to get some quality recruits. I thik Chad Willis is off overseas for a few months as well early in the year which would put a big dint in their forward line.

Without being on their recruitment panel don't know who they were chasing, but to have a go at answering your question KITM. Obviously when Micki knocked back the deal they offered him their was not much of a plan B. Lets be honest Klemke only played off a back flank when in HFL last and I would have thought they would have been better off chasing a player who could have a bigger impact and perhaps bring some players (I.e Anthony Ross - brought Nicholson, Myles from Brock - realise had money at disposal but still had the connections bigger name player - Manny Edmunds or previously Duryea at Holbrook). Curious why Abele wasn't in the mix though, popular with players took them to Grand Final and was a good player in HFL then outsted the year after, by committee from what I think. Comments?

Think it was Abele's after game antics which forced him to move on. I dont think Klemke is having to many hassles recruiting players though. Rivcoll are one very dissapointed club after he signed a fair number of there senior side from last year.

Thought they have only been getting 10ish to training. Who are the blokes he has signed?

Few handy ones in Gostellow and Matt's brother Cade. Tim Lubke and Stroh have also gone with him (not sure of quality). One or two others that i cant remember names of. Didn,t he also sign a couple from Nth Albury early on?? Understand not many at training but I think its just the culture of the place...

Rivcolls turn over of players is always huge so I don't think it would worry them too much. Tim Lubke and Stroh aren't going to set the world on fire and Gostellow Ive never heard of, but that doesn't mean he can't play. Again none of those players are impact players, more role players,( and that was at Henty when they were finishing 7,8 and 9), which Cul have an abundance of. They need some talls, Chris Willis would have been handy but wouldn't have gone there with his links to Henty.

They signed Luke Donnan & Luke Schuberg from North, so you'd think they'd have enough quality to be up there somewhere. Must be hard for the coach to have an effective training session with only getting 10 blokes.

Fair point on Rivcoll Big Al. However i would of thought with the likes of Fruen, Barber, Hutchins, Mcgrath, Klemke, Lodge, Willis, Donnan and Shuberg that they had enough impact players and it was role players that they are looking for. Also why would Willis have more ties to Henty then the Klemke brothers, Strogh and Lubke? He is not a local there is he?

Chris Willis is from Henty, plays cricket for them and owns a property out near Cookadinia. Just my opinion on the following, I agree all those blokes you named for Cul are fair players (forgetting Chow Brown if he plays) but each is under 6 foot, so who is going to take say a Graham Hart at Osborne or Way at Holbrook and thats just 2 I can think of, or even be a strong mark down back or forward. I know the HFL is a running league but each of the premiership side in the past 10 years have had tall options around the ground (Osb -Gleesons, White, Hart, McClay, Hol - Coutts, Way, Hickey, Aylmore Lock - Cavendon, Polman). No disrepsect to Chad or Salad as I think they are both very good players, but both are leading, opportunist types not pack markers. McGrath is only short as is Fruen and Brown and I couldnt see Wishy holding down CHB as he is best zoning off creating for them much the same for Klemke. Stroh is only a wingman/hff (last I saw when at Henty) so again not really capable of being a prominant option. I think Schuberg is only just over 6 foot isn't he and played 2's at Nth didn't he so I couldn't see him being overly damaging, though hopefully for Cul's sake he carves up.Don't know Donnan so can't comment. Also as mentioned in an earlier post Chad is going to miss at least a third of the season going overseas,so that is going to hurt the scoreboard. Also is Hutchins definately playing at Cul, out with a knee injury last year so you wouldn't expect him relied on as one of their top dogs if he suits up for the lions. Again those are just my observations and by no means that of an expert, but I'd be interested to see what others think :thumbsu: .

Always tune in with interest to a number of the Southern NSW, Riverina regional threads.

Played football with a number of guys years ago who were from down there and like to watch their clubs progress over the years.

Played with a guy from Lockhardt (Dave Burkinshaw), had a younger brother, who would be early twenties now I suppose, who was starting to go alright, wondering does he still play.

Spot on big al. You certainly sold me. Is poaches and his brother goin around again? May solve some height issues, but with no Picket, Findlay or Tucker that spine may be a bit stretched like you said.;)
