How do you know? Raiders won 1 game last year and conceded 2000 points. Obviously the defence wasn't quite holding up.

Granted - Raiders won only one game, however they only bled badly against sides like Yarra (Hargreaves, Rudd, McMillan, Ednie & co) - which is a considerable step up on Holbrooks forward line.

As I said previously your simply not comparing apples with apples. I agree that Holbrooks forward line will be OK in the Hume League.

Apparently K. Jacka will have to renege on his Walla signing, as his better half has a job in Balranald - they will be there for a couple of years.

What about the grounds out there - is the only really dodgy prospect the Brock and Burrum ovals? Or are others a threat to the season starting on time?

He would be able to pick up some handy coin down this way. Big money in the Central Murray FL. Balranald have one of the biggest wallets of them all.:thumbsu:

I wonder if Karl will play cricket down there as well. Apparently he is pretty handy with both bat and ball.

I believe Hickey has agreed to terms with Holbrook, problem was that he hadn't told Lavy of his intentions.

I think we've heard enough about Hickey, it seems he's chasing cash and wherever he ends up good luck to him ? Any word on recruiting now that the Christmas break is over. BB Saints, Magpies, Jindera have been pretty quiet, anyone heard anything ?

Pargeter is very quick...solid player for Howlong

Doolan also lightning quick...not the hardest player you'll ever see.

Both handy

Coreen League Club CDHBU are looking to join the Hume League next year according to the Border Mail.
Must spell the end of the Coreen League, especially if Wahgunyah go to the Tallangatta League.
Jerilderie, Coly and Rennie will head west, but where does this leave Billabong Crows? are they strong enough to compete in either Hume or Picola?, at this stage definately not.

Article from the Border mail regarding another club that wants to move from the Coreen League. Looks like sadly the writing is on the wall and will be big changes in 2008.

Another club wants to quit troubled league
Saints eye Hume move
By BRETT KOHLHAGEN
THE Coreen and District Football League’s haemorrhaging may have become a fatal bleed with Coreen-Daysdale-Hopefield-Buraja-United the latest club to signal its intentions to leave the beleaguered competition.

With the league entering this season with only six clubs, Saint members recently voted overwhelmingly to apply to join the neighbouring Hume league next year.

CDHBU president Paul Phibbs said the club’s preferred option was the Hume league rather than merging with Picola league clubs as proposed by the NSW-AFL Southern Riverina regional board.

“We are definitely keen to join the Hume league,” Phibbs said.

“Our members believe it would be better to go that way rather than the Picola direction.

“It’s just a sign of the times in the Coreen league with a lot of clubs struggling.

“It’s getting harder and harder.”

Wahgunyah unsuccessfully tried to join the Tallangatta and District league last year, while the Murray Magpies won entry into the Hume league through an appeal hearing in Wagga.

Coreen and District president Phil Price said he would be disappointed to lose a club of CDHBU’s standing.

“We would hate to see them leave,” Price said.

“There have been a lot of talks about restructuring through the NSW regional board, but it’s more geared towards 2008 and nothing is finalised.”

CDHBU fielded senior, reserve, under-16 and under-13 teams last season and made the preliminary final in each grade.

Coreen and Daysdale merged in 1996 and welcomed Hopefield-Buraja aboard last season after the Bulldogs spent two years in recess.

The Saints won last year’s senior premiership, the first in their history as an amalgamated club.

There has been a mixed response from Picola league clubs regarding an amalgamation with the Coreen league with their biggest concerns being junior football.

A working group consisting of the VCFL, Southern NSW AFL and Coreen, Hume and Picola league met at Barooga late last year and agreed to seven recommendations.

One of them was to continue a league in the southern central Riverina, based on the nucleus of the six remaining Coreen and District clubs.

Last I heard the Saints' official stance was they wanted to stay put if it was at all possible, but if Wahgunyah was to be cleared to Tallangatta that a five-team competition wasn't viable and Hume was a much better option than Picola.
I didn't attend the meeting in question and haven't spoken to anyone who did, but Phibbs' comments suggest that stance has changed and they want to move in 2008 regardless.
If that occurs - and it would be interesting to see what Hume supporters think about it - then the CDFL will be dead after 98 years, something which would make for a very sad day for football.

Any truth to rumour Kerry Bahr heading to Osborne. Obviously Culcairn's chase for the last 10 years wasn't good enough

Hickey is signed sealed and delivered at Holbrook, has been for 4 weeks. Holbrook have actually signed 9 blokes.....the silent assasins!!!

Hate to be a defender in the hume league playing Holbrook - Coutts, Hickey and a very fit Justin Way back on deck would cause trouble in the O&M let alone hume footy.

I'll have the Brookers playing finals in 07.

Silent assasins????? Care to list the 9 blokes signed on at Holbrook?

only early days but seems murray magpies having trouble tracking kids to play in the juniors along with every other district league club. Could this be the end before the beginning. Heard the league have already drawn up two draws in case they can't come up with the numbers. Shouldn't be there anyway.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Magpies will get smashed in the Hume league. Watched them getting flogged in Coreen league over last couple of years. Where are they going to get new numbers from? They are basically the same admin as the old East Lavington and South ALbury prior to that. We all know where they ended up. No way in my opinion that they will get 3's and 4's up and going.
