Well, sorry bud, but reality is a bitch.

Gaff isn't gong to earn you a top 10 pick, and as that is what you're seemingly only interested in hearing you probably need to accept you're not going to hear it here.

"Reality is a bitch" is rich coming from someone suggesting that Hartung and 32 for Gaff is a fair offer.

A top ten pick should be our minimum expectation for a contracted Gaff. Were he uncontracted, and had nominated a team that only had pick 15, I'd agree that's all we would be able to achieve.

I'm sorry to say but Gaff even contracted is not a pick 5's ares hole. no offence to the player intended.

If a contracted HILL was traded out for a low second round pick how do you justify Gaff being a pick 5.

I'm just saying that is what the asking price would be. Given his age and pedigree (25 year old AA mid and former BnF with a chance to add to that this year), we will drive for the best achievable pick naturally. Whether his actual value is a top five pick is another issue.

From memory weren't there extenuating circumstances with Hill's departure? Either way it shouldn't influence WC in a situation where we still retain leverage.

Get out of here.

I'm not going to keep outlining the same things time and time again about trade value.

I dont think pick 30 will get it done. If hawks and wc are talking id assume hawks have a higher pick already stiched up. But dont take what i say as any thing more then just my opinon. Im probs way off.

Sorry are you talking about Hartung to WC for our second pick, being 30? Fair enough. I'm not sure what else we have to offer for him so if the Hawks don't want 30 the deal won't get done.

All Australian. Averages 10 full possessions per game more than Hill at point of trade. Hill got great service from premiership teammates, so there was a doubt over his production in a lesser team. Whereas Gaff has to run around like a blue-arsed fly closing the space that our slow midfield leaves. Also, you don't get to factor in Hill's obvious improvement this year.

Anyway, Gaff's value is determined by what other teams would pay, not by our speculation. I don't know if it's pick 5 - but it's a fair way above what Brad Hill was worth a year ago.

I never said he was equal to Hill, but the reality is he's an outside player who relied on other players getting it out for them. Priddis Natanui etc say Hi.
The fact that Hill was a premiership player still doesn't change the fact that Hawthorn also had plodders.
No doubt Gaff is better, how much better ain't top 5 better. Gaff is limited like Hill to the outside....that ain't top 5 territory. That's mid to late first round region..

I wouldn't do 10 for neither but I'd choose Gaff ahead of Schache. What has Scahche done to prove that he's worth anything of above pick 20

You gave me a choice and i choose one.

Has a better record then Roughead after the same amount of games and the perfect age for a team like us and exactly what we need going forward.

People seriously under rate him IMO.

Its a moot point anyway as we aint getting him.

Who would people rather use a pick 10 on Gaff or Schache?

I think a new rule should be applied. Its called the JOR rule.

If you're a former first round pick and you've showed **** all at AFL level. You ain't now worth a first round pick on previous junior reputation.

Can someone please sign off on this.

You dont like gunston? Had monumentally better support at Adelaide on field and coaching setup. Schache will be a player, and i dont see how else we can get a potential a grade key forward. - shouldnt pay anywhere near top 10 pick tho. JOR deal of pick 19 would be good

Wow. You're lucky I intimidate easy.

Thanks for outlining your poor understanding :thumbsu: I'll be on my way.
It's not poor understanding, its just not what you want to hear.

Gaff isn't worth a top 10 pick. He's a 15-25 at best.

That doesn't mean it's not what we would push for if we were going to be receptive for offers. That's the benefit of the player being contracted. Hawthorn could have exploited their position better than they did. They weren't obliged to trade Hill but chose to.

I'm not actually suggesting that St Kilda would necessarily throw pick 7 at us without putting up a fight. But we are in a position to set that as our asking price, otherwise we will back ourselves in to change his mind over the course of the year or accept FA compensation (which would either be band 1 or 2, the latter of which is equal to your suggested offer anyway).

And as an aside, I doubt many objective people would read an offer of pick 25 for Gaff with a straight face.

Surely you're not suggesting Gunston didn't show any form or talent at AFL level in Adelaide.........he was on the brink of bursting.

I would be surprised if West Coast didn't want an immediate replacement as well as a future pick. A second rounder next year may be the equivalent to a late first this year. West Coast land an established player as well as the opportunity to draft a future A-grader.

It really isn't a bad deal, especially if Gaff has told them he wants out and has named the Hawks as his preferred destination. I imagine West Coast will be reasonable deal with, as we were with them last year facilitating the Mitch trade.
