Duffield once again with a sanctimonious full page hit job on West Coast. This time wacking Simpson for daring to state the obvious fact that AFL staff cuts make it risker to recruit kids from troubled backgrounds. He is a dickhead, Duffield I wish he with slither away. Perhaps Simpson should just stayed quiet and WCE just not recruit these kids then everyone wins huh?

It's not the first time Adam Simpson has mentioned it, but it's the first time he's elaborated to the extent of providing examples.

His goal seems pretty clear to me. We are a rich club, and we've lost some special team members due to these soft caps. Those team members provide additional support that make it possible to draft the best possible players, as opposed to the safest (vanilla) players.

Dynamic, exciting, freakish players are the ones that get people talking about the game, they put bums on seats, they sell memberships, they are good for the game.

Simmo is trying to create some conversation and push a little in regards to the soft cap. We're hamstrung in that the poor clubs are fighting to keep the cap as is so the strong clubs can't bounce out of the Covid years and build a dynasty. Unfortunately the journos have latched onto a smidge of his overall point and are running with it because outrage = clicks = income. A well thought out piece about the flow on effects of the soft cap meaning the next Liam Ryan goes undrafted just doesn't generate interest, thus income. Even though it's a story that needs to be discussed. And this is the problem with the media only writing what will sell ads.

Generally speaking the whole public vs private school shtick is tiresome and inaccurate.

Plenty of fantastic and promising kids attend public schools, and plenty of down to earth and humble kids go private.

Of course, entitled brats can be found at both. Hard to avoid these days, not just with kids but also adults.

I think Simpson's point is a sound one, and one that the AFL has to address in the near future. Player welfare and personal development is very important. He should have worded it differently perhaps but doesn't need to be dragged over hot coals or anything.

Duffield on 720 just then admitting he took it personally due to be from a public school, but then went on to admit that he knew what Simpson meant and the point he was trying to get across.

His point is sound but the comment was profoundly insensitive and probably signals the beginning of the end for Simmo.

It does expose the club and AFL industry psyche though.

Not the first time that Duffield has decided to write articles about things he has ‘taken personally’ - pretty sure he was equally outraged back when Nic did his 2nd knee and the club rep didn’t like the camera man hassling Nic - I guess you can do that when it is framed as an opinion piece…

Gets asked on the game podcast why they don't have audio for the journo questions in the coach pressers. "Well west coast tried having a wireless microphone to pass around between the journos but they never do anything to help us so why should we do anything to help them?"

Anyone else heard possibility of a lockdown . Which would take effect within probably 2 hours . Our neighbours a cop and has been be told to be prepared for a possible immediate lockdown . I dont know what that means . I could possibly be sharing a toilet paper mad rush . It would be sad if the crowds are cancelled again hours before the game
Any update on that?

What's on the agenda?
It’s my mate’s misso’s birthday tour so we’re currently at Mash, then Ugly Ducklings then Great Northern Distillery. I would have gone to different joints as I’ve kind of had enough of Mash, Ugly Ducklings I don’t really rate then GND again is meh. I’m just along for the ride I guess.

No . Not yet . Maybe they are just on high alert . Probably because of the lockdown protests in Sydney ..

I'm assuming they're on high alert on the back of what's happening around the rest of the country.
