I’d probably have more confidence in us being an option from not being named by the media. 1. Because that’s the way we like to do things and 2. I’m not sure how many deals have actually materialised after being reported on at the beginning of August. Until he either signs on with GWS soon, or we get to trade period.. nothing is confirmed.

Also just reading that Josh Kelly had a trigger clause in his 2 year deal with GWS that could extend his contract by 8 years! Holy shit, could potentially be at the Giants until 2029. Far out if only we could pinch him, his old man lives down in Busso...so theres a link to WA...sorta

Are you sure it is Phil that lives in Busso? I thought he remains in Victoria. Maybe you are confusing with Josh's uncle Lance who also played at EP and also, obviously, came from Busselton.

Was my favourite player as a kid. My grandad being an East Perth committee member meant I grew up with all those guys around me (or me around them would be more accurate). That was back in the days when random kids hanging around grown men in ill-fitting shorts wasn't weird...

He doesn't live in Busso anymore but I know Josh's cousin who grew up in Dunsborough and went to school in Busso. Phil well and truly a Busso boy who is now doing very well for himself in Melbourne.

Yep, Phil Kelly was one of the best players I have seen. I watched him tear SA apart in a state game in Adelaide many years ago.

I don’t see that either. Rotham can be an effective rebounding defender but he’s not got the telescopic kick like a Hurn or Jetts.

O’Neil is a midfielder or flanker, shares more traits with Duggan than anyone else.

Win v GWS came in the game Coniglio went down. No Kelly, DeBoer ect... Whitfield first game back. GWS clearly returned to form since adjusting and getting a few players back. GWS had a losses to Brisbane and Essendon the previous two weeks.

Win v Collingwood last week. We had a disappointing game against them but they got up for that game and have dropped away since with even more injuries.

Other wins against poor or flagging sides.

We’ll get a good look at them before finals. Which win or lose on that day will be a big positive.

Fans have high hopes of all-Melbourne first week

MELBOURNE is set for a footy finals bonanza with Victorian teams and their legions of fans preparing for a race to September glory.

At least four Victorian clubs look set to contest the post-season but with five weeks until the finals series begin, several more are knocking down the door to make the top eight.

And - depending on results Melbourne could play host to all four finals in the first week.

Red-hot Richmond and long-time ladder leader Geelong head the contingent of Victorian teams locked in for September action, with AFL heavyweights Collingwood and Essendon almost certainly set to join them.

But with three weeks of the regular season remaining amid the tightest AFL ladder tussle in years, the Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and St Kilda could still sneak into the finals. And Fitzroy fans who have stuck with Brisbane since their team flew north in 1997 will provide the feelgood story of the year after 10 years in the finals wilderness.

And Carlton great Brendan Fevola said even his beloved Blues should not be ruled out of finals calculations as stand-in coach David Teague auditions for the full time job in search of a fourth straight win today.

"It's mathematically possible isn't it?" he said. "In Teague we trust."

If Geelong wins the minor premiership, Richmond finishes runner-up and Collingwood and Essendon end up fifth and sixth, every firstweek final will be staged in Melbourne.

A mouth-watering showdown between the Pies and Bombers could also take place in what would be the first final between the arch rivals since the 1990 Grand Final.

AFL Fans' Association president Gerry Eeman said the thought of Melbourne hosting four first-week finals would have fans "salivating".

"I think there will be a real buzz around town and genuine excitement because people in Melbourne know that is not normal any more and it doesn't often happen," he said.

"And having the big clubs in there makes it even more exciting."

He said the prospect of a longawaited Essendon-Collingwood final would divide the nation, not just Dons and Pies supporters.

"It would be fantastic not just for fans of the clubs but fans in general because you get sucked into the rivalry and you can feel the passion." he said.

The AFL ultimately decides where matches will be played. If Geelong finishes top of the table the Cats are sure to plead their case for a home final at Kardinia Park.

But MCC chief executive Stuart Fox said the MCG was the biggest and best stadium in the nation and deserved to host the biggest games.

Five of six finals played at the MCG last season attracted crowds of more than 90,000 and similar attendances are expected if Victorian teams hit form at the right time.

Punters are overwhelmingly placing their faith in Richmond to repeat its drought-breaking flag of 2017, and bookies have installed them as the Premiership favourites.
