No- this list still has the same traits it did post-Neeld, fading out of quarters, inability to win close games, complacency in games we are favourites to win. and as a coach Goodwin hasn't shown that he can change it up when teams get a run on against us. He's been with the club since 2015, developing his game plan and list while Roos wore the flack as figurehead. Now the training wheels are off and we still have many of the same old problems I listed above. Time for excuses is over really, we've not played finals for over a decade now
Did you watch us under Neeld? This list is way closer to Bailey than Neeld.

Yep. Good teams cover these losses and setbacks during games such as you guys copped last night and still find a way to win. It's worth remembering Richmond had 3 best 18 players out as well.
Mate loosing a ruckman in the game is just about the worst thing that can happen.

Not only is Watts well and truely out of his depth playing in the ruck, its the structural damage it did to our forward line. No Watts up forward and Smith in hospital and Petracca on one leg meant Hogan was our only forward target.

It depends on how high they have set the bar.

If they set it low with excuses for not winning then no

If they set it high with no excuses then yes.

Personally - I think it will be a failure but they are good enough to make the eight. They just need to get a handle on how to tackle in-game challenges like injuries - good teams always and I mean always find a way to win.

I don't think it's a failure if they don't make the 8. Watching them last night, you could see the future looks very bright. Big picture they are going to be a force. Right now they just aren't putting 4 consistent qtrs together. But this is a team brimming with talent, albeit inexperienced - once they get a bit more experience lookout.

Other teams have lost their ruckman during a match and still won. It's an event every team should have a contingency plan for. Good teams find a way to adjust their gameplan IMO.

If we ever make finals I'll shed a tear.
Seriously ? Making finals in and of itself is no big deal. Nearly half the competition plays finals.

I agree it's the step needed to win a flag, but I saw the Dees play finals under Northey and again 6 times in 10 years under Daniher. Finals by themselves give me no jollies.

We won 3 quarters last night and were clearly the better team. You lose your ruck by half-time, plus another player, then your second best forward is taken out of the forward-line to ruck and it's a mirror image of the Geelong game. Another game where we were clearly the better team.

We live to fight another day.

I just liked the rhyme.

try and list some more excuses there buddy.

Probably not as cut and dry as the title.

The way they played last night would've troubled anyone in the conditions. Speedy, swarming numbers at every contest, machines like Oliver just surging the ball forward then elite pace like Hunt on the outside finishing it off. It was unreal.

If there's a knock, it's that the game should've been well over at 3QT. Have to put sides away.

Even the best teams struggle being two down on the bench as well as other injuries for over a half. We're young and we blew up. They fought their guts out last night but it caught up with them.

We've lost our #1 ruck for over a half twice in 3 games now.

Plenty of talented sides have delivered nothing, they will still have to make it happen.
Even with two out they should have been able to win last night as in most games this year, still not sure if all the old mental demons are gone, as they still lose way too many games from winning positions.

So we didn't lose our Rickman and second forward before half time?

Yeah, the loss of Alan definitely hurt us.

All year we've gone into games with Watts as our back up ruck, it hasn't worked and injuries to Gawn and Spencer has further exposed how poorly it's worked (to be fair Spencer has never been an AFL quality ruckman).

Our defence has gone backwards this year, even adding Hibberd and Melksham (grrr) to it.

We won't make finals.

He's about to make his AFL debut...

Max King was delisted last year, you're thinking of Mitch King who's only played 2 VFL matches. He may likely get a debut next week, but he is injury prone so I'm worried we could be stuck with Filipovic and have Pedo/Watts/Frost as backup
