Discussion If we had a pre-game song

Ive had friends who are opposition supporters state that it was actually kind of intimidating when they tried it. A full stadium doing it would be absolutely amazing.
Its honestly worth another go but the club has to get a group of people together, say 100 or so, in a single area to really belt it out and keep going with it. Sporadic people in the crowd singing along to a pre-recorded chant is never going to work.

If not theres only one other option

Yeah, it would have to be something a bit funny/grungy/filthy. St Kilda ffs.

Without a doubt, has to be U2 & Greenday - Saints are coming.

imagine it playing at a packed home final. Would send chills.
Only problem is we never follow through with anything as a club. Played it for a little bit back in the Lyon era, then it was the slow “oh when the saints chant.” When we were shit with Cho.
Both are decent but we just don’t stick with anything long enough for it to become a popular thing.

Yeah, here's the thing... I f'ing hate green day. Maybe this whole thing is just a bad idea.
Now, the Beastie Boys. "Fight for your right to party". That's something I could warm to.

I always had this dream of a stadium full of Saints fans doing a really dark ultra-slow war-chant version of O When The Saints Go Marching In with a big OOOH!! between the lines to scare the crap out of the oppo, but as some have said the crowd numbers and motivation aren't really there for Saints fans, and over the years I've had to accept that it probably will never happen. Shame.

When we were up and about circa 2005 to 2011 we could fill the stadiums but you can't introduce stuff like that when the cheer squad don't even look like they want to be there. It was painful like watching someone trying to get up a Mexican Wave at a state funeral.

Me too but the one is banger and builds to a bit of a rev up. It's a cover so you could do the Skids original version. The U2/Green Day version would just have better production but you could mix the old one up for the stadiums.

Has to be “The Saints Are Coming” by U2/Green Day. This echoing around the ground gets the heart racing before the bounce.

I also always though “Click Click Boom” by Saliva would be a great song for the club. Fast paced rock and there’s some line in the chorus like ‘here come the boys from the South’ which I always thought was fitting.

Either way surely we all agree more has to be done to turn Marvel home games into more of a Saints cauldron and experience.

Considering Liverpool took YNWA from Celtic... just do that.

The problem is not the song... it's you have to do it every week, without fail, for about ten years before it will work. The attempt a few years ago was fine, but they didn't persist with it long enough. It will take a long time to imbed.

to be fair in that era the cheersquad average age was 73 years.... at one game in Perth we were yelled at by the ladies in charge for "being too loud"
the cheersquad has since had a revamp and some younger fresh blood now controling it , we also have those guys who make up the Saints chants now as well.. i reckon had we been able to get crowds in this year we would have had the place rocking given we were winning games and playing some exciting footy ... if ever we were to get it up and running it would be about now when we have a good strong following and our games are full of energy to really work up a crowd ..

Those post goal chants they played in 2018 were awful. People around me would audibly groan when they were played which isn't what you want happening when we score. Someone theorised that our goal kicking was so bad as a protest to stop those chants from being played.

OK, well if there's a non-GD version I might check it out after all.
Not a big Bono fan either, but U2 did have some good songs, I'll give them that.

I agree that if it has to be a song already out there then 'The Saints Are Coming' would be the best song (I just listened to The Skids version for the first time now and it sounded good). I just thought a song dedicated to our team would be better but, as people say, there may not be enough crowd support/involvement for any song.

admittedly i wasnt there week in week out but as a one off game i found them kinda fun ... but i can see how over time they would get old fast ...
i guess in the end you will never get something that fires up everyone as we all have tastes that are varried ...

as long as it isnt like at the Swans game where they play Neil Diamond's "sweet caroline" at three qtr time ...

i think songs with lyrics in general will date poorly ...

Freo - Long way to the top
WCE - Eagle Rock
Swans - Sweet Caroline
Port - Never Tear us apart

I’ve always liked the old St Kilda theme song “I do like to be beside the Seaside”. It’s easy to slur along to but doesn’t exactly strike the fear of God into the opposition.

And every time we lose we should drown out the winners song with You Keep me Hangin On by Vanilla Fudge/Kim Wilde lol

2nd-99th the saints are coming for general vibe.

for sing along:

i'm not a massive tom petty fan, been seen this work in US sports. works really well. everyone knows the words. easy to learn. bit like what port have done with tear us apart.

we are a pretty reserved and introverted fan base though. can't see us ever being able to do what port has done.

The lyrics to the OP song are:
We’re all here to see the Mighty Saints come marching in
When you’re with St Kilda, you are family, you are kin
We’ll watch you rise and we’ll watch you soar
St Kilda, the Mighty Saints forever more
You know that we bleed RED, WHITE and BLACK
For all of us there is no turning back
St Kilda, the Mighty Saints, you’re in our blood
St Kilda, the team we love
We’re St Kilda through and through and to our core
Oh, St Kilda, the Mighty Saints forever more

I Won't Back Down could work. Great lyrics.
