I'm gay and I play footy. What's the big deal?

You've always had protected sex? Never had sex in public'ish? Never hired a prostitute? These are all things heterosexuals do too you know.
Heterosexuals don't engage in unsafe sexual practices in the rectum as frequently as homosexuals or with homosexuals who will have done this on a regular basis. This totally is the biggest problem and concern.

"Assaulted"? Like, people hit you? Hit and kick you until you are dead? For being a brave, outspoken straight person? Because that happens to people who are gay, just for being gay.

There are people in this world who do abominable things and they totally do deserve to be condemned for it. Sexuality is irrelevant to that issue, though - by conflating the two, you are implying that the "homosexual lifestyle" (love that - most of us just call it "life") is connected directly with abomination in a way straight people aren't, and grouping gay people together in gross generalisations. And that is bigotry.
Don't act like gays are innocent a we all know they go off the rocker and get violent when things turn out in a way they don;t want it to. As for the homosexual lifestyle it is in particular through their noted long standing unsavoury practices sexually.

Oh you poor darling.

I bet, unlike with what most women experience, you only encounter these sexually aggressive men at pubs & not in the work place, on public transport, walking down the street, . . .

my female friends used to get groped (not just touched, fair dinkum groped) 5-6 times a night at a nightclub. Doing nothing other than dancing with a bunch of girls.

I thought they were talking a grab on the bum, but then they laughed and unleashed. Have to admit, i was stunned how common it was for guys to try digital penetration on a dance floor. Some people are just feral freaks

this is massively naive - speak to girls and ask them how often they get asked to partake in that activity

I'm quite sure you won't understand this, but there were (and sometimes still are) ridiculous pressures placed on young men and women to get married and have a family. They did this so as to conform to the "norm" even though deep down it didn't feel right. Then, sometime later, they decide they must be true to themselves. The marriage breaks down and they move on to live their own lives. In two instances I know like this, both still have contact with their exes and have strong healthy relationships. The kids see it as normal and everyone gets on with their lives. Just imagine being forced into a life you never wanted to live but do so to keep everyone else happy.
Be that as it may, you didn't answer my question

literally don't know how to process this

The sooner someone comes out of the closet the better, then we can all move on. The NRL got over it along time ago yet the AFL is still hung up on it.

I think part of the issue in a player coming out, is not the ridicule that he may receive but the fact that he will be made a poster child for the gay cause something that he may not be ready for.

That is insane. Gay guys have been murdered in "self defence" by straight guys who thought they were coming into them. I have never heard of the opposite happening.

Of all the gay guys I know, none would waste a minute of their time bothering a straight guy. I'm starting to wonder if some guy/guys have heard your odd and offensive views and have been winding you up just to do your head in.

I'm more and more coming to the conclusion that the first out player won't generate the shit storm that it once would have done anyway. The overwhelming reaction to Thorpe was of indifference and I think Gil may take a step back from the fog horn diplomacy seen during the Vlad years

I'm sure it would be totally support and admiration that would put them off going public. Not the slurs or ridicule.

Was saying moreso the ridicule from the vocal minority.

Agree the whole Thorpie thing was met with a resounding meh!
F*** 'em and if they want to throw abuse at players on the field they can be treated in the same way that people who racially abuse players are. They can have a season or so off to give them time to think about why those sort of comments are inappropriate in this day and age.

I don't think we'll see a gay AFL player come out in our lifetime.

Wow, are you just freestyling with it now?

That's an absurd thing to say.

Nah when you get assaulted for commenting in a way which homosexuals see as against their beliefs then they are bigoted too. There are some parts of the homosexual lifestyle which are absolutely abominable and they totally deserve to be abused for it.
And you deserve to be abused for your bogoted downright embarrassing viewpoint that belongs about 50 years in the past.

This thread is a disgrace and is closed, some of the posts I have read are a complete waste of bandwith and probably would be more suited on a forum like Stormfront and are not wanted or appreciated on this board.
