okay, today sucked. i feel like shit.
the players were r00-ed before the game started.

the umpires helped geelong early to get into the groove with diabolical decisions.

still the players looked too stuffed to get their offensive game going.

a number of times the tv showed their players against ours in close ups in stoppages and it was obvious that we need a few more kilos of muscle in general to match sides over a full finals series.

waters was magnificent today and his mis-kicks were often caused by sloppy impossible targets further up the ground.
that lack of cohesion in team play was our downfall. being buggered might have caused that.

i believe we missed eberts hardness early. you get possessions by simple tough play knocking opposition players off balance. would have preferred ebert ahead of masten due to physical size.

unlike geelong we played a lot of the same players throughout the year.
we were forced to do that as our replacements were not as good.
so we were probably less fresh than geelong.

our squad needs to be even stronger in depth.

next pre-season training is vital to eliminate any 2010 sins forever.

what we need is for players now to work on their quickness off the mark and swervability. this can be done.

we need Lycett to make an impact next year.

it is so important that we enter next years finals with no players who cannot deal with the finals battering over 4 weeks. even bigger bodies needed next year.

darling will be stronger next year.

we need to get a brilliant type for the midfield.

priddis also battled manfully today but the overlapping players around him were not their today to collect on his hard work.

my prediction of another player to some judd like things soon did not eventuate but will happen soon, probably early next season.

we need another key defender, a ruckman, a fast midfielder and a fast forward.

the pre-season next i believe will make us amazing for next year as we were very close, and if kerr had played against collingwood maybe we would have won and have enough rest to get into the grand final.

the aura at last pre-season was amazing and that is where these new developed talents and skills are instilled into our players.
with the securing of our coaches there is no reason why we cannot improve substantially again, as much as the last pre-season.

infact i know they will.

players like scott selwood and shuey don't know yet how much more they will be able to swerve. they need the seclusion of the pre-season to take a big step, to awaken what their knees are capable of

by the way, the umpires gave geelong a 5 goals advantage today

GE I will always tip my hat to you sir. Perfect sentiments about the game, the season our club and our future. I am certain the club has the same point of view. Another Quality mid is required and the club will be ferocious in acquiring one. I hope you are right about a certain player but i have to admit i don't think he will become what we thought he would at 16.

not him !!!! not who you are thinking of.

someone else. he will have pre-season to experiment with his confidence in it.

It sucks to think Fyfe wasnt picked ahead of Sheppard but seriously if we didnt see what Fyfe could be then Freo absolutely lucked out.

Sheppard and Gaff will improve massively over the pre season.

We'll be needing plenty of this.

I'm just praying Masten can get in a full preseason, then get in more than a dozen games before his next injury sets him back, if he does that those dozen games should be enough to shut the doubters up for good.

he makes me happy...

Who's this we're talking about then?

Paddy Mc

  • 5% improvement across the board for our 19 - 22 year olds
  • Increased core/lower body strength for both Masten & Swift
  • Weedon improved fitness base
  • Sheppard to bulk up
  • No dramatic form drop from senior players - especially Lynch, Embley and Nicoski.
  • No injury god balancing out our good fortune in 2011.
If the above happen then there's no reason why we can't make top 4 again.

The Eagles need another pre-season like last one, where the players are able to do more tricks and manoeuvres like we saw this year.

i saw Priddis late in the geelong final run the fastest or best he has done with ball in hand ever, and went through players.
there was something about that run and the greater ease in the running action.
Cant see why this improvement will not continue.

i can see ashley smith cementing his position next year in the back line.
he needs to work on his short stab passes.
his speed and strength will be needed in next years finals. just needs to improve SMARTS as they say.

we do need a marc murphy type player. gees he has become impressive with the extra strength.

i think if cox recovers and starts next year like this year we will get early wins and get the confidence to stay in the top 4 throughout the season.

i really hope shepp and weedon and even swift (yes i said it) have a good pre-season.

what im looking forward to is that the majority of the 22 would be approaching that 50-80 or so games together as a group and that is when magic starts to happen and they all know what each other is doing, kinda like the cats on the weekend

About 2 years ago, although marc murphy was quick and very skill full, i always felt that he was not physically strong enough to worry about.

in 2011 at age 24 he bulked up and with the speed he has, is bloody amazing.
What i am on about is that the Eagles youngsters are not even close to reaching their physical strength at this moment.

next year darling, gaff, sChofield and many others will be stronger allowing the ability to attack in better angles like murphy can do now.
i would get murphy ahead of judd.

what type of player do you reckoon we need from the draft?
IMO i think we need a mature aged hard bodied midfielder but i don't think there's too many of those floating around maybe Trade Week

You want to trade Masten NOW? By all reports he had a really good pre season this year but was injured in the first 5 mins of the first round, he is now showing what he is capable of. With another good pre season under his belt and a shaved face i believe he will have a breakout year and show why he was taken at number 3 in the draft, bookmark it :thumbsu:

Yes i certainly do. Hands down. No questions asked. While he's supposedly "worth something"

How many years now have i heard the same story as you posted above? "This is mastens year", "He's been injured and has had a horrible run but he'll come good", "Masten is training the house down", "Everyone is wrong about masten, you wait until he is injury free, gonn be a gun"

It goes on and on and on, every year. What did he do this year? Got injured... again.. then couldn't break into the team for more then a week until about round 18, where he came back against brisbane and was absolutely superb.

Apart from that one game, lets be generous and say a few good games... thats all he provided in his FOURTH year of footy.

I respect everyones opinion. But mine is that we move him on finally and cut our losses.

Good point you make to the doubters, hes still very early in his career. Do me a favour and look at many of the current or former stars 4th years in a time where players weren't even expected to play anywhere near their best footy til 24/5 (hint: Embley, Glass, Priddis, Cox) then get back to me.

Therein lies the problem, peoples impatience is just mind numbing.

True not everyone is a Joel Selwood who can have an instant impact in his first year. Gary Ablett Jr took at least 4 years to become the machine he is now.

yeah i think you need to check GA's stats. whilst he may not have averaged 30 posessions per game, he was kicking 25-40 goals a year. hardly something to sneeze at.

but i agree with people being impatient. would be nice to actually back him. people think that abusing him at games and bringing him down due to his draft pick no. or simply because he plays football and gets paid, will make him play better. thats just senseless idealism. the world and the human mind does not operate like that.
