I've met both my heroes (Lemmy and Steve Albini) and told them they were my heroes when I shook their hands and I honestly felt like a little kid, so even though this thread is hilarious, I can't help but feel sentimental about it.

If it gets kids off the couch, off their stupid iPhones, twitters and facesnapspacechatgrams, then it can only be a good thing

This is a rubbish thread. What some flog thinks on Bigfooty isn't important. If you were that kid, it would be a cherished memory. For those who met your footballing idols when you were younger, how did you feel?

I served Vin Catoggio when I worked in a pub and I was thrilled

Still believe it takes valuable time off the player's brief moment on the stage. They get a micro second to wave to the crowd after the hat and medal exchange routine...but it looks like the little blighters are here to stay so we'll all just have to put up with it all for many more GFs to come.

I agree with the OP, I don't find it meaningful to have those kids do it. would rather see past premiership legends do it, that would be more meaningful to the players
I don't believe it would, many players are fathers and I could see pure joy from some of the players to the kids presenting the medals.

I suspect the AFL's motives for this traditional ceremony is the real target of most people's derision as opposed to the kids themselves
