couldn't you make a direct swap for betts and pffiefer?

Betts doesn't do enough as a small crumbing forward to cement himself in the team. Time and time again he misses those shots that are bread butter for small forwards. If betts plays this weekend what about playing him on milne?

This isn't meant to sound mean, but do you actually watch and understand the game of AFL or are you making random comments using names you've picked up off the board?

Betts........on Milne...........FFS.

He kicks 2 goals a game. WTF more is a crumbing forward supposed to do?

hmmm this isn't meant to sound mean but do you????

I have seen pffiefer play first hand two years ago for a few games and he played as a hff. Betts is too inconsistent, I am just toying with the idea of him playing on milne so that he may actually learn a little about how to become a good small forward (as much as i hate milne, he does he's job well enough).

I think betts has great potential (maybe) but if it is argued that playing say gibbs on hird last year as a great lesson for the kid, then why couldnt you do the same with betts.

I'm sorry I am just not overlly sold on betts so far.

Unless pffiefer is injured he definately deserves a crack at a game, and someone has to miss out. Who would you leave out blue bear?

Pfeiffer hasn't played a senior game so I assume your talking about SANFL............the same level that Gibbs picked up 20-30 possies each week and kicked goals at will.;)

Betts has a good goal sense as he has shown repeatedly over the years. He is good over head for his size, has average disposal when not kicking at goal, and applies very good pressure in the forward line, just needs to stick some more tackles.

I have seen nothing of his defensive side that suggests that he could play on Milne. Betts is attacking first and foremost. There is a big difference between applying defensive pressure in the forward line and being accountable for a man.

I would play Grigg on Milne. Continue his education. If that doesn't work then Bannister may have to go to him, depending on how much impact he is having.

From the limited reports I have seen on training it sounds like Fisher and Hampson are fit so I'd have:
Out: Hartlett (susp), Edwards
In: Hampson, Fisher.

The only other option I would consider (though I don't see it happenning for various reasons) is to bring in another mid who is fit enough to run out 4 quarters of footy for Hadley. Russell would be my suggestion. Pfeiffer fas had limited pre-season and bringing him in with Judd, Stevens and Hadley would make our endurance worse, not better.

What did Edwards do wrong to get dropped? Fevola cannot be the only option for goal if this team is to go forward. Jake looked good.

Tough week.

Suggested Team and Key Match-ups:

B: Jamison Setanta Scottland
HB: Thornton Waite Jackson
W: Judd Murphy Simpson
HF: Gibbs Cloke Fisher
F: Edwards Fev Houla

R: Hampson Carrotts Stevens

Int: Kruezer, Hadley, Bannister, Bower

Thornton (Gherig)-severe lack of strength but I think Fraser is not at his best yet. T-Bird will test Frasers accountability on the rebound.

Setanta (Kosi)- has the height to go with Kosi and the speed/rebound to test him.

Jamison (Milne)- Jamo is one of the few that can play big or small. He can also offer third man up support and kill the ball in contested situations.

Waite (Roo) - Great match-up and will be great viewing who ever wins.

Jackson (Harvey) - won't stay in this position.

Judd (?) - who ever comes to him. Put him on the wing and let him make space and rotate into the centre & bench.

Murphy - stay with Dal Santo. Must back himself. Dal gets lots of the ball but is not as damaging as he should be.

Gibbs - natural goal kicker who can also be accountable. Very creative.

Cloke - lead up to the wings and use his big body to make space for other forwards, is a good field kick. (Not at goal though). Crash packs. Would also have stints in the Ruck forward of the centre.

Fisher - first game and usually performs really well. Everyone must remember he is not a key position player and never will be.

Edwards - continue on from last week. but maybe time his leads better and rather than lead straight at the player with the ball try the fat side of the ground as well. He must back his speed. He is probably one of the fastest sprinters at the club. Create space for Fev and be accountable.

Houla - crumb the ball and create. Betts can't crumb compared to this guy. Very creative and can set goals up. He must play a sweeping type forward role.

Hampson - Run to space and fill space with his speed and jump on the defensive side of the centre. He won't beat King in the ruck but he should be able to hurt him with posessions.

Carrotts - keep mindful of defensive pressure on Hayes.

Kreuzer - Drop into CHF or Ruck to releive Hampson and Cloke.

Hadley - not match fit yet but will be better this week. This guy can hurt people and must cruch bodies when he is in the centre.

Bannister - relieve as a defensive mid and must drag opponent forward and maximise his height and marking advantage.

Bower - relieve backline and in the mid as an attacking winger who sweeps across the half back line.

Some of it is from left field. I would love Bentick and Pfieffer is the side but I think another week for them is ideal.

yes i was talking about SANFL and I wasn't talking about disposals, all i was trying to say is that he has played that position before.

Do you think its a little unfair to drop edwards so early?

I would def keep hadley in the side, we lacked hunger and desperation in the second half last week and this was where Hadley shone the brightest.

Great to hear about Fish and Kruez though. We really need them up forward.

Has edwards ever played back at all?

I would only drop Edwards in a stright swap for Fisher as they play a similar style and Fisher is much more advanced.

If Edwards stays in the side you need to drop someone, and I see BlueFever has dropped Grigg, Betts, and Harts.

Thats a pretty tall side, and with Betts kicking two goals and doing some damage, he isn't going anywhere. I can't see Fev, Fisher, Edwards and Cloke lining up, I just think Edwards role is redundant in that miz, and a crumber in Betts will be far better value.

Having looked at the game again, Hadley did a fine job with limited game time, and his run didn't seem to be a major issue.

From what I saw on the weekend, Pfieffer is still a few weeks away from really pushing for senior selection. Just looked like he was still working his way back from injury when I saw him play on Saturday.

thanks for that hbf!

my question is how does a player go from best on ground to suffering a minor injury to being a few weeks from the seniors??

disappointed he isn't ready, we really need someone like him.

what about replacing betts with armfeild, blue bear?

Totally agree re:Benjamin as soon as he is over injuries he plays for mine.

just read in the australian that kruezer is likely to miss this week again.

So maybe the ins will be.... hampson, fisher and bentick

outs .. harltet for fisher, banister for bentick and hampson for sentana ? (if he is still not match fit) ....

would anyone consider cementing hadley in the backline this weekend to block up the hot spot. Or even push edwards deep into the backline to double team one of their power forwards?

That's a shame but we don't want to rush him and will give him as much time as he needs to fully recover.

Yes, hopefully, and no. Our midfield is already slow and unfit with Stevens, Hadley and Judd coming back from injury. We can't have 4 midfielders coming back from injury in the same team or else we'll get monstered again out of the centre.

Bannister shouldn't be dropped. Did a reasonable job last week on Deledio and will be useful against a St Kilda midfielder, whether it be Hayes or Dal Santo.

I agree with the other 2 changes.

Hadley is in the team because he can provide a strong body in the centre and around the clearances. It would be a waste to play him down back as a gap-filler.

Edwards looked dangerous at times up forward and can chip in for a few goals per game. Right now, our forward line is struggling and he is our 3rd best avenue for goal, assuming Fisher comes in. Why we would move him down back and be reactive rather than proactive is beyond me. Sure, we need to stop the opposition scoring goals but we need to score some ourselves!

A bit hard to get 39 touches if you aren't moving ok :)

Well if the Australian says he's likely to miss, then he almost a certainty to play...........last I heard they still had Voss as coach with Frawley his mentor. :D

Bannister was IMHO one of our best last week. Will play and will have a job to do. Bringing in Bentick not match fit, with Judd, Stevens and Hadley still playing catch up would just about concede the game IMO.

Fisher and Hampson the only two ins unless Jammo is injured.
Hartlett and Edwards out.

Yes, Edwards was O.K., but he is not ahead of Fisher in our best 22. He'll need to do more, esp with his kicking for goal. One of those two he had in the third would have been very useful last week, and the spoil with Fev in the fourth cost us dearly as well.

Dog Act for getting someone back is it? So if someone punched you in the face you wouldn't want to do anything back?
