The Tackle.

2. It’s not real footy

It produced pride from the decimated Eagles and a large sigh of relief from the Kangaroos. All the while, we have to accept that this is how footy is in 2022. After being forced to make 14 changes from last week’s team to this week’s, the Eagles had to make do. In 2020, the AFL launched its festival of footy, where 20 games were played in 20 days to combat Covid in a format which was hurried but fair. In 2022, it’s luck of the draw, and the Eagles were unlucky. It’s farcical enough when 14 changes are needed because of injury and Covid, but how far does integrity plummet if/when a club is hit by injury and Covid to 25 players? Postponed games are surely less compromised and less affected by integrity of competition. Luckily for the Kangaroos, they took the four points, although they were far from commanding.

How seriously can you really take a segment titled "The Tackle"? How many Paul Hasleby shots would you expect from such an article?

Had the bad thought to listen to a podcast of Pavlich on gilly and goss this morning hope to hear the big nosed one having a go at freo. He decided it was much more fun to blame being around "the dirty eagles players" who are apparently always dirty in the changerooms last week. for him having covid... Id ban the wacker from any interviews with our players.

The hate runs deep for Pav against us.
Surprising he still has a job with the amount of bias he has against our team since he can't even pretend to be impartial.
I still remember him describing Liam Ryan (iirc) being injured as "good news".

He was clearly joking - playing up to the perceived bias.

Titus O'Reily is always a chuckle.

The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: AFL Round Two

Footy is a passion, not some cold hearted, spread sheet dominated rational exercise.
On a Monday, you want irrational reaction. You want emotion to trump reason.
What you really want is idiotic hysteria.

You've come to the right place.

North Melbourne (74) v West Coast (59)

The question, 'can North Melbourne beat a WAFL side?' Has finally been answered.

The Eagles had 14 changes from last week’s side, so rather than a game, this was more a meet and greet for the players.

With all the changes, it perhaps isn’t surprising the Eagles struggled and Jack Darling, on his return to the side, had just six disposals and had trouble injecting himself into the game.

North had the benefit of all their players having met each other before, but they didn’t have everything go their way with Tarryn Thomas going off injured.

Luke Davies-Uniacke was another casualty, part of Willie Rioli’s campaign to injure an opponent in every game this season.

North’s greater cohesion was evident throughout the game, with Nick Larkey being the main beneficiary with six goals.

The Eagles though did give it a fair crack, but it’s almost like making 14 forced changes in a week is not conducive to good football.

I watched afl 360 for the first time last night in about 4 years...
yes its still terrible
Whately said Eagles shouldn't have played and agree with the point mentioned above ^^ 'setting directive to allow it to be reversed'
Then Robbo chimes in with - 'What happens if WA teams end up with Covid problems all year' trying to make it sound like we would want the decision to be reversed.

**** that. We just lost 4 points to North so anything except for 'the show must go on' will be deemed uneven playing field IMO

If we get smashed by Covid that bad we'll be over it within a month or so and have 12 weeks of clear air. If that leaves us 0-6 due to Covid though, I suspect the media to start questioning the integrity of the draft order given we'd have one hand on a top 3 pick not of our own doing.

No idea how the AFL could change tact at this point. If the season was compromised after our game went ahead, it'd be compromised one hundred-fold by affording greater leniency to other clubs in the future.

Actually, on writing it out like that, I now expect it to happen.
We would be well in our rights to try legal action and get an injunction if that was to occur. Now we've played, we can't take it back. You couldn't even re-play the fixture because it's not fair to North. They've made their bed and they have to stick to it.

Essendon got pick #1 when they lost half their list to cheating; we'll be fine.

Tough pill to swallow but the AFL aren’t going to budge on their stance when it’s highly likely to only impact our teams in the West.

Right now teams in other states won’t have to isolate unless they are actually Covid positive, whereas we are locked down if anyone in our households have it. Having a side with plenty of players with young families, it’s likely we’re going to see a number of situations like Ryan having to isolate more than once. It’s a huge handicap. If Carlton had’ve played us in round 1 with a Covid positive player, our whole 22 would’ve been out for a week, I really don’t see a situation where any teams outside of WA get stretched to anywhere near the extent we were last week. And it’s likely to keep happening to us.

Im just glad we aren’t contenders at the moment or those chips would be f’n boulders right now

Vic has household contact isolation rules too, consistent with the national guidelines.

WA isn't that far an outlier on this.

What are the close contact rules in a mask free outdoor scenario?

15 minutes face to face without a mask and you’re in iso. 1 game or training session with a positive player and the team gets wiped out
