Only Saw this today, but I had to post about this in disgust. A pointless article that needn’t be written that tries to sugar coat the trade by adding faces to the subsequent trades we made after receiving Geelongs 3rd/4th rounder.

The article is beyond embarrassing and something a betacuck club would post

The issue I have with the discussion about TK is that he (TK) was only a commodity in this situation.

The personnel who were party to the initial failure to draft (recall reading somewhere he was getting assistance with injury treatment? from WCE) and then overpaid at the time the trade was made (ignoring the almost trade the year before).

TK is the easy target in this discussion.

Management needs to be held to greater account.

Most definitely. It is not TK's fault the club may have paid overs.

Lyon obviously hasn't been paying attention.
Ryan has a habit of crapping his daks.

Wasn't his first time and neither was the 2018 GF.

‘Unfamiliar territory’: Star Eagle’s bizarre effort underscores Simpson’s ‘big challenge’

Melbourne great Garry Lyon has pointed to an uncharacteristic error from West Coast Eagles star Liam Ryan, warning it is the symptom of a bigger problem gripping Adam Simpson’s side.

The Eagles slumped to 1-5 on Saturday after an 84-point demolition at the hands of Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval, soured by concussion to star onballer Elliot Yeo, who was one of a host of Eagles stars who struggled to have their usual influence on the contest.

Showing vision of a dropped mark attempt from Ryan, who appeared to look for contact in the air before letting the ball slip, Lyon said the effort was representative of an Eagles side that was devoid of confidence.

“There’s big challenges for West Coast - I don’t want to show this to embarrass Liam Ryan by any stretch of the imagination, but this is what they are confronted with right now,” he said.

Liam Ryan goes back and he has a look (for contact) - he didn’t go hard enough at the ball, let’s just leave it at that.

“I don’t think he’s scared in any way, but if you’re playing and your head is in the mindset of where it needs to be, he takes that mark.”

The Eagles’ horror start to the season - the side’s worst since 2010 - has, according to Lyon, created hesitancy among players to commit to contests given their premiership campaign is virtually doomed only six rounds into the year.

“This is the challenge now for Adam Simpson and the players - this is unfamiliar territory,” he said.

“One goal in three quarters of footy for the mighty West Coast Eagles and then you start going, ‘am I prepared to go to the well and take the hit that’s going to come with me taking a simple chest mark?’

“Well yes, you have to. You have got to find a way to get back into that mindset. And Liam Ryan wasn’t.”

Co-commentator, Hawthorn legend Jason Dunstall, said the Eagles’ personnel issues only cut the side so much slack.

It did not excuse, he said at three-quarter time on Saturday, the lack of effort on display from Simpson’s men.

“We all understand how severely handicapped their preparation has been through covid and through injury. But when you look at the numbers, they’re getting out-tackled by Port Adelaide 49-34, but Port have had 60 more possessions,” he said.

“That’s workrate, that’s something Adam Simpson has to demand of his players that they’re actually not producing.”

Seriously? What a shitshow the club is at the moment.

Cal Jamieson and Isiah Winder. Real dividends from the Kelly deal. Absolutely sycophantic, tone deaf puff piece.

I don't think the official club media guy is going to post a nuanced, thoughtful critique on the club website regardless of where we are on the ladder. You know how PR works, right?

That article is embarrassing, and it's embarrassing that the club even okayed writing it to refute claims made by... well everyone I suppose, but no one in particular? Just truly bizarre that they are now pissing into the wind trying to tell us not to believe our own eyes.

Fix this shitshow or step aside for someone who will.

Nic Nat is pure class. ******* hate the pot shot he cops from certain segments on this board.

He sure is. And I totally agree with you. There is a very nasty undercurrent to our supporter base and sadly this board is becoming a reflection of that. The way in which he is spoken about (and we all know what it is) is too much sometimes. Just my opinion and I expect many will disagree 🤷‍♂️

Plus a lot of the players that he mentions we got from picks we received in the Tom Hickey trade, of which Tom Hickey and our own pick 34 were the main elements which made up the trade with only pick 60 being involved from the Geelong trade.

This board doesn't do moderation (not the forum kind, the other one). Everything is either perfect or terrible, no in between. Everyone is either a gun or a spud, no in between. Everyone is either the greatest or useless, no in between. And everyone will remain as they are now, no change is possible. If it appears that change has occurred to get them to where they are now, that's an illusion and obviously earlier judgements were completely mistaken. It's particularly noticeable in the drafts and trades threads - where every 23 year old picked up in the midseason draft will be a 200 game gun and every multiple AA who's out of form is worth peanuts and should be forced out the door.

As we're losing, everything is the worst ever. If we had Fremantle's exact results, everything would be fantastic and we'd be ignoring the low quality of opposition faced.

Moderation. Nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems.

Man, we really need to hit the midseason draft trawling for 23 year olds then, typical that the club isn't on to this already

You have summed everything up perfectly 😍

There is a lot of things to criticise, I get it completely and as a club we are going through a “transition”. I get it, it’s crap and we need to see some real change. But my god, referring to players (i.e. Gov as a fatso, fat slob etc, the potshotting of Nic). These are guys that have given everything to the club. Gov is a major reason why we won a flag FGS. The constant denigration of Simmo, that it was Mitchell who won the flag, that Pyke got us to the Grand Final in 2015. I mean it’s just ridiculous and disrespectful IMO. But if that’s what people believe, ah well 🤷‍♂️

Yep. It was most obvious when we beat Collingwood. Everything was peaches and apparently our youth and depth looked pretty good. A week later we are a horrible club and looking at a 10+ year rebuild. Nisbett is Hitler reincarnated and Simmo is the worst coach the club has ever had.

No one said or thought that, everyone was just happy with the effort of the young guys.
The club is stale from top to bottom, you can keep pretending everything is all peaches and cream all you want but it isn't, some changes are needed.

Yes, well it was much quieter on the board, I mean when WCE wins the “traffic” is a lot less…
I do recall a big consensus being that we have some genuine depth in the squad, what with O’Neill, Naish, West, Jones, Dixon providing “support” to our top liners.

But here we are. A fortnight later and we have the worst list in the competition.

🤷‍♂️

Maybe we just love to take the piss.
