No one is suggesting using doctored footage is okay (neither are war crimes)

Odds even again for election after VP debate. As a “never-trumper” I was slightly apprehensive leading into it with a Yale candidate vs The Coach. Coach was nervous and tried his best but certainly didn’t win the overall thing IMO. But landed a few good blows on health care (gosh Vance can lie with a straight face re Trump “saving” Obama-care) and abortions and esp the 2020 election result right at the end. Waltz missed some obvious “attack” opportunities vs both Vance and Trump.

Vance was surprisingly impressive with his empathetic and non confrontational demeanour. Very smart dude but - like most pollies - avoided answering many questions and will be interesting to see the fact checks over coming days

Pretty good assessment. Most experts think nothing will change because of the debate. And Walz missed a lot of opportunities to land blows and many think he didnt do a great job. Well that was up until the last half an hour when he went to town on Trump and Vance with Abortion and Jan 6.

The main criticism on Vance was when he called out the moderator for fact checking him. Made him look weak but the worst thing he could have done and literally did was refuse to answer a simple question on whether he thought Trump lost the election. That was a disaster and it went down like a lead balloon.

In the end id say Walz won the debate purely on that last half n hour.

But I'm not equating all Republican voters as MAGA either.

Some people will vote for a party, regardless of how bad the candidate is and even if they don't actively like the person.

Australian politics tends not to tolerate MAGA style far right campaigning. This is probably the one good thing about Australians, we smell BS and if someone is lying Trump style they would literally be laughed out of politics. Its why MAGA supporters in Australia is a very small minority. One Nation is the closest party to MAGA style

I think it would he safe to sat that most Australian Trumpers vote either Peter Dutton or your One Nation/Clive Palmer style parties.

You'd also agree that Dutton is trying to attract that quality of voter with his rhetoric.

But those who do have lost every world wide election. UK and France both had far right candidates and they both lost. So the amount of votes he thinks he will get will most likely lose him an election. Although I hear Albo is shitting the bed. So what do I know.

Surely LNP is a lot more “centrist” than Trumps Republican Party? As per previous message seems a totally inappropriate comparison to me. I detest Trumo but have been a swing voter in Oz at times over the years.

it is certainly closer to the middle , not as close as it used to be.

I know it's hard for some to grasp, but Labor is more centre right currently than the LNP.

But as I just mentioned, you may vote for the LNP for other reasons than Peter Dutton, I'll stick with non majors

But I was specifically talking about Trump supporters and Duttons determination to target that kind of voter. (Which doesn't mean the broader LNP won't be targeting other types of voters, I mean they need 20 seats)
