With West Coast, Sydney and Adelaide all likely to be premiership contenders in September, it is important that they know how to win on the MCG, as it is for any team wanting to win a flag. However, looking at the recent records of the interstate teams at the MCG is grim reading overall.

Adelaide - 6 losses in a row
Brisbane - 2 wins in the last 10 games
Fremantle - 1 win in the last 12 games
Port Adelaide - 4 losses in a row
Sydney - 1 win in the last 15 games
West Coast - 1 win in the last 10 games

And played precisely 0 of them against a team who call the MCG home...

It is quite possible that the GF this year may not involve a club calling the MCG home.

Our MCG record is not helped by us being shit for the past few years. The only game last year was against Collingwood so who we drew last year also affects that record.

Edit: obviously I meant home and away game for last year.

Even if it did, I wouldn't think it'd be particularly daunting for WCE, since two of their last three performances there have been quite good.

But the argument that you're going to do well there because you beat the Cats there two decades ago and Sydney doesn't quite hold water.

No, it certainly doesn't.

Current and very recent form is all that counts. It does help though (I think) if the players have played at the MCG before in a finals atmosphere, which is why I think if we make the top 4 this year, our players experiencing two MCG games in a cauldron-like finals atmosphere last year will play a part in ensuring success.

Eagles don't really have a good record against many teams or at any ground when considering the last 5 years, in 3 seasons we won about 17 gams...... As for refering to out last 10, we only play there 3 times in the 2011/12 home and away seasons, so suddenly it's hard to get a decent sample size that doesn't span a long period of time, resulting in a significant change in personal.

And really, last weekend proves we can have a decent shot against any team, on any ground. If we get the chance to test any MCG record out in late September, I'll be very happy.

Worth noting, 3 of our last 4 at the G have been against Collingwood, a team who has won 32 out of their last 39 games? Give us games against shit Vic clubs and those numbers would be very different

West Coast have 2 games at the MCG this year, both against prospective top 4 teams.

North get 1 game at the MCG against Richmond in a few weeks. You would say they get a better preparation for finals than we do, assuming we make it. :p

Honestly I don't think it matters for the GF. The GF is a special game where home/away does not seem to have much impact. Collingwood have played on the MCG far more then anyone else over the last 20 years or so and they are 1 and 4(?), all against teams who probably don't play on the MCG a huge amount (St Kilda, Geelong, Lions).

You also have to take into account Collingwood's recent record against Sydney, WC and Adelaide if we get to play them at the MCG. Fair to say, we match up relatively well against those teams.

Have to say west coast handled it pretty well last week against probably the best side in the comp.

Press doesn't work as well with the wider wings but it shouldn't be a killer.

Just hope we don't cop a 6 day break before the grandy

Since when are prelims played on Sundays mate?

With the GF being played there every year, each team should have a minimum number of games they get to play there each season. 3-4 seems reasonable at the minimum end of the slide. Is unlike any other ground in the country, so every team should be given the opportunity to play there as much as possible.

It's hard to read too much into those stats since those teams only play at the MCG once or twice a year.

In 2010 Freo played their first and only game at the G' in the Semi-Final against Geelong, glad we had so much practice playing there played a pivotal part in us getting completely obliterated.

I'd take a six day break if it meant three WA umpires
