Both teams had extended periods of being pretty average.
Between 2005 and 2018 Lions made the finals once.
Gold Coast have never made the finals.
So for the majority of time covered by that chart, the teams just weren't that good.

I’d go something like every 10 years Melbourne get 4 GFs, Perth and Adelaide 2, Brisbane and Sydney 1.
