I still find it funnier then Seinfeld. Could never understnad the Seinfeld love, it just doesnt make laugh. I find Curb your enthusiasm and even Louie to being superior, but hey what do I know.

I agree The Simpsons greatest comedy of all time.

I can't really compare dramas to comedies. And I haven't seen all of a few well rated ones to make final judgements (sopranos, 6fu).

Having said that I think breaking bad at it's best is the best drama I have seen. But The Wire is more consistent so overall rate that a little higher (could change if s5 of bb is amazing)

Edit- Yes as to the above bb is alot better than those two shows. SoA has some awesome moments, but the writing is a long way behind bb. Supernatural from what I have seen is another couple of rungs below soa.

Supernatural at its peak was great however the past season or two they have lost their way a fair bit I feel although I still watch it. Sons Of Anarchy is a bit faster then Breaking Bad, some eps of Breaking Bad are really slow to watch however, when it's firing its amazing. The last ep of season 4 for Breaking Bad is probably the best finale I've seen to a tv show ever so far, kind of wished that was where they finished it as I feel they are going to struggle to top that.

Breaking Bad is an excellent show.

I don't think I've watched enough shows to label any "the greatest".

The Simpsons have been complete shit since season 10 imo.

This is more or less true. Season 9 is my 'cut off' point.

I agree The Simpsons greatest comedy of all time.

At its peak it was very excellent. But the last decade has been shit, consequently dragging its 'average' down considerably.

Southpark, Senifeld and The Inbetweeners would give The Simpsons a good run for its money imo. I guess The Simpsons has far more eps if that is worth anything.
I liked the Inbetweeners, but I don't think you can compare them to the Simpsons. 3 x 6 episode seasons plus a movie of the Inbetweeners versus a gazillion Simpsons episodes over 20+ years?

Chalk and cheese.

Agreed that only 18 eps does hold it back however, each one of them is quality. With the British tv shows I feel they don't make enough eps for their tv series while the US go far too long, over killing some fantastic series.

One I'm really enjoying at the moment is The Walking Dead, only 3 seasons out so far but well worth the watch if you have some time on your hands.

I've seen the Walking Dead. It's OK.

Well written and directed, with excellent production values. Just lets itself down by some really poor casting. The wife of the main dude, that blonde girl, the old guy, the older woman... I couldn't give a stuff if they were eaten at any moment.

The show was saved by the dude from Boondock Saints and the second cop. I forget names...

Honestly?

I love both South Park and The Inbetweeners but The Simpsons is a far more superior show regardless of how average the past handful of seasons have been.

South Park has dropped off a lot recently and as great as The Inbetweeners has been, it's got nothing on The Simpsons. It's funny, sad and has a lot of meaning in certain eps, plus it's got so many characters that add so much to the show. Many issues have been tackled including homosexuality, adoption, love, sadness, death etc. and it's been done so well; something most other shows wouldn't even dare to do in case they anger viewers and get poor ratings/ get cancelled.

Maybe people don't like the show so much because of how many times it's been repeated on TV but don't let that get in the way of how good this show is.

FWIW, I have worked in the film and television industry for many years, I have worked in Australia, New Zealand, the U.S. the U.K. Ireland and asia. There is one show that is a constantly referred to as the best television show ever, I have heard it repeatedly from many, many different people. The show is the 1985 B.B.C. production ' Edge of Darkness', directed by Martin Campbell and starring Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker. Campbell recently remade it as a feature film, the film was apparently not a patch on the mini-series. I have seen neither but it is the show that people constantly defer to.

I've got it somewhere. Also never seen it but heard great things about it. The remake starred Mel Gibson...

I think South Park has quite a bit of meaning in their eps. I personally haven't watched the Simpsons for a couple of years so I haven't seen much of these "bad" seasons. Whilst I find The Simpsons constantly funny, I find that The Inbetweeners and South Park can have me on the ground laughing. South Park is a show in which I wait weekly to watch the ep as soon as it comes out where I don't do that for the Simpsons.

Although since The Inbetweeners only has 18 eps it probably isn't as good as The Simpsons because it didn't last anywhere near as long.

I agree that South Park's last 2 odd seasons have been quite dull to previously (I really didn't enjoy the second half of the latest season) but I'd still rather watch South Park over The Simpsons personally.

South Parks drop in quality hasn't been that much at all IMO and certainly not even close to the absolute shit that The Simpsons has become over the last decade.
South Park over The Simpsons because they have been quality every single season where as The Simpsons has been crap for 10 years

South Park is probably one of my GOATs. IMO the last 4 or 5 seasons have been sensational.

Haven't seen Breaking Bad or a lot of shows mentioned here, but for me The Office (original) is the best of all time.

Lost? Pfffft.
Seinfeld has the greatest writing of all time.
Arrested Development > Seinfeld (and ima big seinfeld fan).

Although there's a split between English and US shows in their style and definately in volume of episodes, shows like Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Peep Show etc are pretty outstanding.

Watched first season fo Breaking Bad, it's good but wouldnt say great.

!!!

I've only started to watch Arrested Development recently and I honestly cannot see where all the hype for it comes from. I've watched about 3 seasons and whilst it has a couple of funny things, Michael's family drives me nuts (Michael included).

I'd have Seinfeld winning every day of the week but each is their own I guess. :thumbsu:

The two reasons I think Seinfeld was the greatest show ever are the relate-ability and consistency. I can only ever think of 3 bad episodes, the reverse one, the highlight one and the finale.

:
Keep watching, you're about to get to the funny part.

I'd also add, in no particular order, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, BSG and I love Mad Men. Haven't see Deadwood, but will dive into it over summer.
You must watch Deadwood, sadly it never get to go past season three but great viewing & some of the best characters of all time.

As for BB, top five no doubt.
