Is Buckley A Good Coach?

The senior coach is an important club figure and a legitimate topic of discussion. It's fair to do so and everyone has a right to express their view.

The mod team observed that the thread was dominated by a few protagonists and their points were repeated i.e. 8 years of regression vs marked improvement in 17,18 etc Pretty much everyone with a strong opinion has already expressed it here.

What further degraded discussion was the simplistic "sack FIGJAM" or "he's a legend" type posts.

This thread will remain open. If your view has slightly shifted or you have new thoughts please share. In an effort to encourage quality discussion repetitive statements and circular arguments will from now on be deleted as will silly posts suggesting that we sack a coach on match-day.

Breaking my silence in this thread with one post.

It was obvious to all who have known him. I refer to him as HQ, but he has many names.

He loves the Pies and is a very engaging poster. Looking forward to his next incarnation

It's especially funny because a Richmond fan messaged me telling me it was Bucksboys and trying to get me to out him. Thought it was random as I haven't been here that long

That is a bit weird. He's a legend even on the Richmond Board it seems.

It all started with a visit to the Aints board at the end of 2010...

So what’s the difference between the forward line of Mihocek, WHE, JT, DeGoey etc of 2018 and 2021? How have these players who once thrived and kicked goals now become incapable? How have they all regressed in a few short years? The only difference is Cox and Stepho. One we traded out and one is injured or not getting a game. Both those players also kicked a bunch of goals in 2018. What’s changed between then and now to make these capable players, who took us to a GF and a kick off winning it, so bad? Or did they all just miraculously play out of their skins for that season then revert back to form?

Our highly rated head coach tried to turn everyone into something they are not. Stepho to the wing, DeGoey to the midfield etc. He ditched the game style that worked once the successful assistant coaches left. Instead of improving what you have built he changed things and we never could recover, going downhill ever since.
