Couldn't help but notice - is this the easiest draw you have ever witnessed. Collingwood copped a lot last year for not going to Perth.

* No Perth trips for Hawthorn this year.

* Only playing 3 interstate games...not including another 2 whcih are played in York Park, Tasmania which are HOME games for them against Fremantle and West Coast respectively, obvious to see who has the advantage there.

* Only playing two of this years finalists twice, when most Victorian teams are playing 4 2003 finalists twice....

Richmond seems to have had the worst deal this year....for a Victorian side......

Build a bridge and get over it. Collingwood have had easy draws in the past. We still play everyone.

Grow up and stop bloody whingeing.

I agree until everyteam plays each other twice, it will never be even, cannot wait for that day.

Yes, Hawthorn's draw does look rather cosy. They also play four teams coming back from Western Australia. If they don't make the finals, there is something wrong. (barring any major injuries)

PieGal, yes it is an easy draw and as a hawks fan I am rapt.

However Collingwood had a much easier draw this year. They got to play both WA clubs in Victoria but Hawthorn has to play them both in York Park. Also, you only played two interstate finalists from the previous season, Brisbane and Adelaide and the other was Essendon but that is a fixture certainty each year because of its blockbuster status. So out of the hawks and collingwood, who benefited the most?? I will let you decide

We got a good draw, and i'm pleased about that. Then again, who knows? The top 8 is unlikely to stay the same enxt year. Doubt Adelaide will be much chop, and there's bound to be one or two surprises.

Financially, I am a bit concerned though, as we only play Collingwood and Essendon (again) once. We haven't played the bombers twice in a season for about 6 years, which helps us on the field (as we always lose), but hurts off it.

Except for sides like Collingwood, who have the luxury of systematic AFL assistance when it comes to the annual draw, it is a simple matter of luck for most sides.

Correction, Hawthorn *chose* to play them at York park.

Not that I want to be seen as sticking up for Collingwood. ;)

Exactly you cant whinge about having to travel to York Park when your President is the one that wants to play there.

Hawthorn are an average football side...so no-one cares...Collingwood on the other hand who are a Power..we only have to get a few easy games and everyone is squealing...its quite pathetic really..and they wonder why we are unbearable when we win games and so on...

No moron, there is a difference.

Collingwood receive an AFL-rigged ride EVERY YEAR. The pies always ensure minimum travel, and get to play "blockbuster" games twice a year against powerhouse sides in Richmond and Carlton.

Hawthorn, like most clubs, are at the mercy of a random draw. We got lucky.

There is a difference between luck and AFL-endorsed cheating.

I used to sook with the bestof them about "easy draws". But I have changed my mind and now think that the harder the better benifits the team long term. In this day and age you have to be able to beat anyone anywhere.

Brisbane & Adelaide do it.
Sydney & Port nearly do it.
Freo & E-girls are getting there.

A "soft" draw is of NO benifit to a team at the pointy end of the season as if they have got there in part because of the "Soft" draw the odds are that they will be found out when it really matters.

So let's just get on with it and bring on 2004.

Get back to bed little boy.
Collingwood have won 1 flag in 50 of years
Hawthorn have won 9 in the same time.
lmao

All I can say is it's about time we got an easier draw. Get a hold of schedules for the past 10 seasons, Hawthorn have had some very ordinary draws over the years. We've sat back looking at the dream draws teams like Collingwood and Essendon have had over the years ..... now it's our turn .... about time.

As the AFL said, it pays to play home games against Collingwood in Melbourne. Done and dusted.

As for Hawthorn, good on them - As for their 2 York Park games, I don't remember the AFL telling you to move there. And anyway. What the hell kind of travel is Melbourne to Launceston?

Anyway, though. Looks like 2004 will be a good year for the Hawks, what with the sponsor and the draw. If you don't make the eight, be very VERY disappointed.
