They can get rid of it all together for all I care.

Most North supporters call the club "North"

Can someone photoshop a compass showing North on the emblem?

I don't claim to be a Latin scholar, but I've never seen that phrase written with that syntax, whereas I have seen amat victoria curam around the place a few times. As for the Wikipedia page, AFL-related pages on the site generally seem to be written by fans, often with a powerful bias. It's always been my assumption that it was written in the page erroneously by someone who read the scroll under that logo from left to right. Can't know that for sure, but the lack of a source listed for the claim (and my total inability to find any information linking victoria amat curam to the club) would seem to support that theory.

Page 332 of Father Gerard Dowling's book The North Story has a picture of the NMFC coat of arms (same as in Arden's post on page 1 of this thread). Fr Dowling says the translation is "Victory demands Dedication''.

The usual Latin syntax is subject - object - verb, if I recall my year of studying Latin a long time ago. This would make it Victoria Curam Amat - which is the way it appears in Arden's post and the book - if you read from top to bottom, as well as from left to right.

Anyway, back to the tennis!

I prefer the old logo, the new logo looks manufactured.

The hairy boxing dude from Roosistence wins hands down.
Have I stumbled into an ulterior universe?, LT Smash actually agrees with something I posted.

Debating Latin on big footy. Can someone red card them? Now back to sack the coach threads, danial wells needs to step up and hansen is a goose please

One thing I don't like about the "original" - how "kangaroos" is more noticeable than North Melbourne.

My personal preference is we are known as North Melbourne, and that Kangaroos is just a nickname.

(So in Australian tradition I prefer the shortened 'North' over the 'Roos'. No real reason, just prefer the formality - if a word - of our actual name.

FWIW, any word order is still grammatical Latin, since the inflections take care of the meaning (that is, curam in the accusative makes it the object of the verb). The Latin convention for word order was to put the most important word for the meaning of the sentence at the end, with the next most important at the start (you still sometimes see remnants of this in modern Italian). Usually that's the verb and subject respectively, but in this case you might want to put special emphasis on the care or dedication that victory demands, so victoria amat curam or amat victoria curam would be perfectly reasonable.

And on topic, yeah I like MM's avatar as a logo too.

Unlike English, where the number of words and getting them in the right order are of equal importance, apparently.

I think the current NM branding and marketing is excellent. Our gear and logo looks as good or better than any teams.

Going back to old logos/designs would be exactly that, going backwards as a club.

Agreed.

Our history is our history, so leave it as that.

I love the current logo & any change in the future is only going to be something new.

Another pointless discussion (changing back) because it would never happen (with exception of, say, a one off herritage game/guernsey).

Not bad Passmore. I like the middle one:
